Shy Kole tang?

i have owned two Kole tangs and both have been very shy, is this normal behavior? Every time I walk by the tank he goes into hiding. Is this a behavior that will eventually go away?

i have one in my 75g. he was a little shy the first few days in qt but eventually, he got bolder. when i moved him to my dt, he was like king of the castle, all over the place and the first one to the front of the tank at feedings.

i don't know how long you've had him but if only for a few days, give it more time.

Mine is really an 'out front' fish. I have to be careful while cleaning the glass as he is investigating everything I do way to closely!

How big is your tank? What other fish are in the tank?

My display is a 125, there are 3 other tangs. He is one of the smaller ones, the clown and yellow are the two most active swimmers.

They are typically shy the first week or two. Kole's grow bolder as they get accustomed to their new environment. That said yours might have a big challenge adapting due to more aggressive tangs already in the tank.

Going through a similar situation with mine. I've had him in my QT for 8 days now and it finally stops bolting into the pvc pipe to hide. It has gotten bolder each day but the first couple days had me worried. Awesome eyesight, the second I'd walk into my room he'd spot me from about 8-10 feet away at an odd angle through dirty glass and bolt into one of his hideouts. Now he lets me get up to the glass without getting spooked.

He doesnt have an issue coming out when I feed the tank, he just doesnt free swim very much. I'm getting ready to rescape, hopefully that will help a little. Nobody shows any aggression, even towards the 2 inch blue tang.
