Shy tangs

Hi

I recently bought a kole, purple and yellow tang. They are shy everytime I go near the aquarium and when the lights are on. They will hide at the rocks

When I am not around or when lights are off, they will come out and graze on the rocks .

It's been two days so how long will they usually act like that before they are comfortable swimming out in the open?

It all depends on the environment they are in and the fish. Some can come out hours after going in and others take a couple weeks. As long as they are eating and they arent picking on each other you dont have anything to worry about. As everyone on here preaches, Patience.

How would you react if somebody the size of a small mountain kept coming up to your house and peering in the living room window? Give them some time to get used to the new tank, to your feeding routine, and to the people in your house. Some fish do that quickly; other do not. I have a Leopard Wrasse (notoriously shy fish) that took about a month before she would venture more than a few inches from her favorite rock. Even now, she is easily spooked and will dart back into the sand. With Tangs, they are on the more aggressive side, so probably they will just need a week or so.

Also will depend on what they are in, if you have those 3 guys in a 55 or 75 Gallon they are going to hide and most likely not come out often at all. If it’s a 180 they probably just need time to adjust or if they went from a tank with no tank mates to one full of them might need an adjustment period. So many things could affect this such as water temp, tank size, other tank mates, lighting schedule, feeding schedule not really enough info to give you a real answer.

They'll go from being afraid of you to demanding you feed them every time you walk by the tank :) assuming the tank is large enough for all them. scroll down a few posts and you'll see my 4 guys swimming about. it took a couple of weeks now they are very demanding lol same as with those Anthias in that shot but it took them a bit longer.

This. Give them a week or two and they should be swimming around the whole tank constantly.
