Sick Flame Angel

recently my Dwarf Flame Angel died:[. Very werid though yesterday he was perfectly fine until last night when he wouldnt eat. Then today he acted weird all day and then died. I cannot find anything to help me explain why it died. I dont know if i could be possible to be ich i didnt think it killed a fish that fast and he never had any spots on him which is really confusing me. Like I said he was acting fine up until last night and then everything went downhill. He always ate a lot with a variety of food.

Any other additions recently fish, invertebrates, corals, etc? Other fish are doing ok? Any other details?

I just got a frag of polyps the other day and got a clean up crew from reefcleaners.com 2 or 3 weeks ago. Every other fish and coral is perfectly fine right now that is why I have no idea what happend to him. I had a pygmy angel a few months ago that died also but it is weird he was pefectly fine then all the sudden he was sick and died within 24 hours. I dont know if it was ich he didnt really have any spots just some what i believe was sand (thrown up from my diamond watchman goby) but my clowns my goby and my blenny are all fine like i said and my corals.

If a fish dies from ich, you'll usually see spots---but not always . However, you'll always see scratching/flashing, rapid breathing or general lethargic behavior. If a fish dies from parasites, there are always symptoms. You really haven't provided enough info for even a wild guess. how long have you had him, use any meds (FAs don't tolerate copper), was he in a QT, appetite, and change in the fish's skin or appearance, how old is the tank, what do you mean by "wierd" behavior? Etc. Just for info: IMO & IME, the origin of many fish has a lot to do with survival. Indonesia may be the #1 source of Flame Angels and I really avoid fish from there and the Phillipiines. Also, dwarf angels don't do well in newer tanks that lack plenty of mature LR for grazing.

The tank has been running for around 6 months now. By weird behavior I mean he stopped eat only stayed in one spot when he normally swims around. His skin color changed to pale. Before he died he was swimming upside down side ways. He wasnt eating at all when he normally eats a lot. I feed them frozen food (Marine Cuisine, Emrald Entree, and Mysis Shimp)

Little less then a month i got him from Emmons Tropical Fish (none of you have probally heard of it) but they are the absolute best saltwater fish store in probally new england.

many of these fish are caught with cyanide and that could be the reason.

i have had two fish that died in QT like that too, but both within a couple of days of purchase, not a month.

If it was only a month I would just say it was sick or didn't want to live in your tank. Things you can not control. It's part of taking wild animals in. Hopefully this hobby is going more captive breed and agricultured . It's the only way to preserve the reefs. I've paid more for fish and corals from sustainable sources .

IMO, captive bred fish are great, but a decent selection is a long way off. Most species will never be available except wild-caught. Responsible collecting is going on in many places; such as Tahiti, Fiji, Hawaii, Australia, Christmas island , et al. I really see no difference in buying a fish from a responsible Tahitian source and buying a can of tunafish. In most places, there is no evidence that our hobby hurts reefs at all. Boats of novice SCUBA sightseers, dragging fins over the reef, are far more dangerous.

Like I said above; FAs from some places have a terrible survival rate. IMO & IME, this is another reason to buy from a place like LA....you know the origin of the fish.
