Sick Naso?

I have a 6 inch Naso that I had in QT for a week and it was doing very well, after a week I saw it breathing a little hard so I tested ammonia and it was 1ppm (maxed out the test kit) so I had no choice but to move it to the main tank. I dripped it for 4 hours but the sg was still off by .04.

I put him in the tank and the nest day he was covered in white spots from head to toe but they are kind of blotchy so I’m not sure if it’s ich or mucus or something else? He’s been in the main tank for two days now and his skin didn’t look any better although he was livelier and out in the open yesterday.

Anyone have any ideas? I find it hard to believe he can go from no ich to being covered in thousands of them in less than 24 hours? He ate cheto for the first week he was in the QT tank and ate a lot of it. .

they are big white spots right? if they are then its just stress and naso's do that. if they are small sugar sized spots... then you may have ich

they are not big white spots, you have to look close to see them. they are all over his fins as well. But as mentioned it doesn't look like ich other than the fact that they are white and small.

I'd put him back in QT w/ meds.
Do a water change to keep amonia down, light feed, carbon.

You should be able to tell the difference from ich and Naso stress. Are the white spots raised, or an actual part of his body color, (the blotchy look) If it's the latter, it's stress and they do this. (sometimes in dark water too)

I've got a Naso tang in my QT right now and at the one week mark Ich reared its ugly head. Many times you don't see the first outbreak of Ich as there may only be a few isolated spots. Then after the Ich falls off, reproduces and reinfects the fish you will all of a sudden see your fish covered with hundreds of spots. Today when I woke up my Tang looked Ich. However I know it will be back in a week or so and overwhelm my tang if I don't do anything.

Because your fish is in a confined tank, the Ich is very concentrated in the water and it is easy for it to find a host. The fish actually ends up breathing in a bunch of the parasites and they will attach to the gills. This is very dangerous for the fish.

How big is your tank?

Yep my Naso also changes color when he is stressed. His grey skin will show some white patches when stressed.

However I never see any changes on his fins which makes me think his Naso has Ich.
