sick red carpet

Hi all after some help here



i have had a small red carpet nem around a inch or so very similar to this picture for a week now






i noticed 2 days ago on one side around the edge isn't red anymore and has lost its tenticels !!


i have managed to fed it some brine shrimp mix tonight which it took i then tried some small chopped muscle which it just let go


im just worried as these are quite rare and its so small



the lights are 240w ever grow LED'S

i have 3 other bubble tips which are growing and doing well

any ideas ?

could something have stung it? these nem have very mild nematosa(sp)?

I wouldn't be too concerned unless it deflates, which is rare for S. tapetum.

These nems are fairly common now. Some people refer to them as Bali red mini carpet anemones. It's still up for debate if they are true S. tapetum or not (I personally think they are a new species).

I agree that it's most likely a new species. Try as you might, these never get over 2 inches in size. They split pretty regularly though...

I had three of these one a small rock and a BTA moved too close. The little red mini carpets all had areas where they lost their color. I separated them from the BTA and they are fine now. I also had a file fish eat half of one. I removed the fish and the nem completely grew back. They are extremely hardy and will heal if you remove what is causing the problem. Feeding them is the fastest way to help them grow back in my experience.

It's recovered now I'm feeding it ever other day just a bit of frozen chopped muscles mysis etc

This was sold as a red haddon are you saying it's not ?

Definitely not. This is a mini carpet anemone (S. tapetum or close relative). These anemones will not get any larger than 2 or 3 inches and are quite common. I hope you didn't pay the price for a red haddoni. If you did, I would demand a refund.
