Signature coral, Prove it....

Anybody have for example, JF Flame Acro or Candle Stick for over a year? Pics of Frags received? Coral grow out pics as of now?

This reminds me of a Seinfeld moment :) ... See, anybody can spend the big bucks to get the coral, but can we grow the coral?

Experience says, this thread won't be a long one :(

Not sure I understand what you want to see here, but yes, many many reefers here show photos of coral grow like before and after shots.

RC forum does not allow modify post after 5 (?) minutes, otherwise, I usually update first page with monthly FTS (I did that in Taiwan reefer forum), which can help to see easily on grow or died....

Signature coral, Prove it....

I want to be proven wrong so I can convince myself to spend on such corals. I think there are a lot of folks like me that think they can get these corals to thrive, spend the dough like me to watch the investment slowly welt away.... Like most not all who buy mariculture corals to find they never color back up..... For me, if I am going to drop a few hundred dollars on a frag, I want to see lots of success from others....

So, share your experience on the two corals mentioned, good, bad or ugly.... Thanks!

why would you try to justify dropping a few hundred bucks on a frag(1/2" at that)... go with your gut, and don't do it!!

I would say if you can not get a maricultured coral to color up, you will not have a positive experience with signature corals. Most are frags of wild aussie colonies, which are similar to the needs of mariculture.
Personally I have 3 new signature corals from reef raft and frankly do not think they are much more impressive than my wild aussie colonies. Granted they are all of 3/4 of a inch now, just encrusting the plugs. It does seem rather dumb to purchase a 1/2 frag when you can get a 6" colony for the same price.

My thought on most wild colonies is: They are more difficult than mariculture, harder to mount. but very possible to get them to grow if conditions are correct, as well as to get them to color up like signature corals. It is really possible to get wild colonies to look super and unique if great care is given. Most mariculture corals really are good corals, the growers want to grow the more colorful pieces so they will sell well, simple as that.

So moral of the story is get some mariculture coral and do good with them then consider some wild corals. Aquaculture coral are easier and colorful.

Personally have 15 mariculture and 20 wild colonies. Color is great.

I have had great success with all of Jason's corals. However if you want to save some coin, hit up Adam at Battlecorals IMO

Finally jumped on the JF Flame band wagon. I am seeing others with some nice grow out colonies, so I feel comfortable with $250 for a nub (Did I really just type that :sad2: ).
