Silent............................

Upgraded to the MP40QD and love it. Also modified the overflow to make it absolutely quiet too. The only sound I can hear now is from the return pump (and vibration caused by the pump or the hose) even though I put a rubber pad under it.

What brand/kind of return pumps you guys are using? What's best way to reduce the noise that the pump makes and the vibrations? Is it possible to have a silent tank (want to hear the fish talk )?

I use a jebao dcs-5000 absolutely silent, even with the sump door open and sitting directly in front of it. I hear nothing, the air silencer from my skimmer makes a louder sound than my return pump.

I have the Ecotech Vectra M1 and L1. Both completely silent with no problems at all. If you are using PVC you can put a piece of soft tubing between your pump and main plumbing to reduce vibrations.

Neptune will it's return pump available soon. It's in beta right now.

It should be very very quiet. Might even be silent but will have to wait to see.

If you want silent right now, doesn't get any more silent than a Red Dragon 3 pump.

I went from a Reeflo Dart pump to the Ecotech L1 and the difference was remarkable. I cant hear the Ecotech

I went with Ecotech Vectra M1--- so happy with the quiet.

I'm in the market for a new backup return pump and was looking at the Ecotech Vectras. But reading the reviews on BRS worried me. Reviews with them going south at a year or less! Anyone run an Ecotech Vectra for over a year yet?

I had a M1 die on me after a year. I sent it in to Ecotech to get repaired and a couple days after they received it I got an email from UPS informing me that I was to receive a package from Ecotech. A few days later the package arrived--inside was a brand new M1.

I'm a huge fan of Ecotech's customer support. Their products may not be 100% reliable but if something bad happens, they really do have your back. When my gen 1 Radion's fan died causing it to overheat, all I had to do was provide a credit card number, and they sent me a brand new Radion while I sent in the broken one.

I agree, Ecotech service is fantastic. I just don't want to worry about my pump dying if I'm in Asia for a month. I can live with my skimmer dying, but not my return.

Currently using a jebao dct pump and so far it is quiet. Wanted the vectra but waiting for the apex return pump before I make my decision

I've been running a Skimz QuietPro 4.0 DC pump in a tub to cycle my rock while waiting for my DT tank. It's extremely quiet and has done a good job so far?

I'm thinking of picking up a Vectra S1 (the new one) as it's in stock now, and using the Skimz QuietPro as a backup.

I'd go red dragon. In fact Robert sold me on a current D.C. Pump when I bought my tank. I bought 2. Gonna go red dragon. Sell one of these and keep one for backup. Red dragon has been making pumps longer than any of these other companies. I also have a brand new m1 sitting. Bought it for my bigger tank. But from all that I've read I don't trust it. I'll keep it as a back up as well. FYI the current pump is loud. And randomly stops.

6 months isn't really longevity. Most of these failure happens a little longer down the road. Red dragons been solid and you never hear any complaints on them.
