Simple Question about the Bayer Dip Process....

Reef1589

Anemones for life
So ive tried looking into it a little bit, as i just came back home from doing hurricane storm damage down in Louisiana... and sure enough i find some Red Bugs crawling on my Acro's one colony in particular is COVERED... and other colony's have a few here and there.. since i cant get interceptor.. none of my friends have anymore... i decided to try this bayer insect killer...

and i just got some simple questions about this.. that i wasnt really able to find anywhere..

1) - What is the dosage / Gallon? couple drops? teaspoons?

2) - How Long do the colonies sit in the Chemical Filled Water? is it more of a Dip in seperate holding tank, then let sit in a Chemical free QT tank? or do they sit in the Chemical Filled water as their QT tank?

3) - has anyone found any certain type of acro's to not handle the treatment well? as far as Deepwater smooth skin acros?

4) - How long should you let Display tank sit Acro Free?

5) - and to my understanding any rock that has acro encrustion on it should be Pulled?

6) - Do you have to pull your Monti's? weather it be encrusting monti or plating monti?

If anyone can answer these questions id greatly appreciate it ... :) and i think it would be a nice and easy to follow Guide for others looking for the information

thats a good video, but only for dipping, what if im treating a whole tank.... how long should i leave everything out of the tank?

i like that video as well, but does this stuff kill the AEFW eggs as well?
i could be wrong since i have no experience with the product but i would assume it doesn't kill AEFW eggs and it would be prudent to remove the frags from the plugs as well..
I wonder if this stuff is available in Canadian Home Depots..
ill have to check..

i would assume it makes more sense to dip your acros and then put them in your qt system, instead of treating the qt system- especially if its only a 15 minute dip.
if i remember correctly, its 6 weeks with no acros in your display to be certain that the AEFWs are gone..

1) - What is the dosage / Gallon? couple drops? teaspoons?
I've gone as much as 50/50, it's really not that harsh. I'd recommend a dosage of 1/4. [Don't quote me on that, do more research]

2) - How Long do the colonies sit in the Chemical Filled Water? is it more of a Dip in seperate holding tank, then let sit in a Chemical free QT tank? or do they sit in the Chemical Filled water as their QT tank?
I've had some corals sit up to 30mins but usually 15mins with a pump or some kind of circulation will do. It is a dip only, I do not know of anyone dosing in QT tank. It kills everything except AEFW eggs. AEFW or Red Bugs come right off after about 15mins.

3) - has anyone found any certain type of acro's to not handle the treatment well? as far as Deepwater smooth skin acros?
None in my experience. I've dipped from red dragons-monti caps

4) - How long should you let Display tank sit Acro Free?
That I do not know. I've never had AEFW and when I had red bugs, I had interceptor.

5) - and to my understanding any rock that has acro encrustion on it should be Pulled?
Yup, unless you have some sort of in tank treatment that works.

6) - Do you have to pull your Monti's? weather it be encrusting monti or plating monti?
Red Bugs target acros and monti? So I would take them out if I were you.

haha i guess i did kinda word my statement earlier wrong, im not treating a QT tank, im Dipping the acro's and then setting in a QT tank for a couple weeks.. is what i ment to say.. the corals are being dipper in a 2.5g tank and then washed in another 2.5 tank then sat in the QT tank with a basic filter/pump and just a small LeD setup for sustain light over the next couple weeks..

i just started the dip process, got first batch sitting in the dipping tank for 15-20 minutes..

i mixed it 2 liters...
the video said 8 ML / 1 Liter

i did my mix at 18 ML for 2 Liters... so we shall see how this goes :)

And Reefnub, Thanks for the respond to each question, pretty much exactly what i was looking for.. :)

only question left un answered is how long to leave display tank acro-free..
