single zoa polyp

OK so a buddy of mine got some zoas shipped to him and in the bag there were two polyps that were seperated from the colony. He gave then to me and I was going to glue them to some lr and let them grow out. It looks like they were tore from the colony in shipping very very close to the base. willthey/can they survive?

It all depends on how close to the base, if it tore the polyp, etc. Most of them do pretty well. After all, lots of new colonies spontaneously pop up by dropping small single polyps.

Yeah they can survive. Just glue them to a frag plug or a piece of rubble. Make sure you don't get glue on the head of the zoa.

i have glued single polyps and they turned out great.

glued this one to my overflow box and it is spreading well, it is about 8 polyps now.

Just make sure you glue the correct side up, and keep it in a lower flow area. Single polyps are more likely to come loose, in my experience.

I have had good luck picking up single polyps out of LFS tanks and glue to a frag plug and a few weeks it will start sprouting babies. Good Luck!! As ficklefins said make sure you glue the correct end which seems simple but it can be hard to figure out sometimes

Super glue gel. Works wonders.


Sometimes when i frag my zoas. I pull each colony out, put them in a bucket and shake vigoriously. The loose ready to go polyps come off. After I have shaken the colonies i want to frag, I glue polys randomly to plugs. In the end you get some nice multicolored frags.

here is another pic of what i was able to do w/ a single polyp in three months. I glued this at the end of january as a single polyp. it is right below the lights you can see how close to the waters surface they are.
