Sinistard's 68.8 Acrylic Tank Journal [Photo Intense]

Thank you KNUCKLEHEAD.

I appreciate the complements.

I am glad I took my time and tried to do everything right. Even with all my planning I have made few mistakes that I will learn from and hopefully others can avoid the same mistakes.

I also want to say thanks to all the people that have helped me along the way to getting water in my tank. It would not look and work as well as it does now without all your help.

Thanks:D

Very nice aquascaping. I may have to ask you for lessons!

I'm assuming in a few years, we will see another thread from you about going bigger huh :-)

I didn't read through all the threads but is this going to be a sps only tank or ?

Thanks and post more pics when you get a chance.

Wow, I just finished reading through this entire thread. I have to say congratz, and I love the black plumbing. I tried everywhere to find it, but I ended up spraying all my plumbing black after it was cut to length.

About halfway back through this thread, someone was talking about the corrosive evaporation being in your basement. If you think about it, salt doesnt evaporate. If it did, you wouldnt have a such thing as salt creep. ;) So with that in mind, you just have to worry about any corrosive properties of moisture, not salt too.

I cant wait to buy a house where I can have a sump in the basement!

Can you take a picture of the full tank with a flash? I'd like to see your stand and canopy again, as they really were well done.

Your tank looks great!

Thanks.

I hope that I don't want to upgrade in a few years it took me 7 months to do this one I can't imagine how long a 200g would take LOL.

I plan on it being a mixed reef with LPS and SPS. I am going to start with small frags and let them grow in, well thats the plan anyways.

Pics on the way.

NICE i like the aquascaping!

Thanks, I was surprised how well it looked, I basically stuck in the 2 big pieces and then everything else just kind of fit into place. I figured I would be changing it around 20 times but I'm pretty happy with my first attempt. I may add some lock line to the lower right CL outlet so it sticks threw the LR into the cave to be sure I don't end up with a dead spot there but that's really all I plan to change. I may add a couple pieces, one flat one against the back was on the top of the right island to make it taller then the left and maybe a cool piece in the sand bed on the far right.

I need to touch up some paint due to scratches and cracks from all the moving around I did to the stand over the 7 months.

Do you all think I should add some hardware to the doors?

Thanks again everyone.

Your tank & stand look so clean and sleek. Nicely done, again. How do you open the doors now, without hardware?

And that image is mine now. I'll definitely find a reason to use it on occasion. :D

Thanks.

To open the doors now I have one of the push in pop out magnet doo dads. The hardware would be mostly for looks. I have some now that match the color of the hinges but I never installed them.

LOL, I wrote out "no PICS for you" and it did not have the effect I wanted so I found a picture and added the words.

i love the clean look. definately appealing to the eye!

Pretty much what I was thinking, I like the look with out the hardware. I may try it out, worst thing is I have to take it off and fill in a hole.

First coral in the tank

First coral in the tank

Here is my first coral in the tank.

I had a piece of montipora digitata break off in my nano so I stuck it in the big tank, it extended it's polyps after a couple hours.

I don't know if I'll leave it there but I wanted to see how it like the light.

Its a Digi, it will be baseball sized in a couple of months

As for the hardware on the doors, I vote keep it clean.

Tank looks great

The tank looks great! Congrats on the sps! I think you have more sps than me now! :) I really like the aquascaping. Is it pretty stable? Did you use epoxy or anything to make it more solid?

I like to keep it small as to not look like I'm compensating for anything

Thanks rdmpe.

The rockwork is very stable. Most of the big pieces fit together nicely. There are a couple small pieces that are loose and I plan to epoxy them down.

I did a little rework on the aquascaping, I extended a outlet of the closed loop so it outputs into the cave on the right, from left to right, so it will not end up being a dead spot. I'll post a picture some time of it I just don't feel like sticking my had back in the tank to take the rock off that is covering it right now.

After taking down the rockwork to put in the loc line and then reworking it back up I hated the way it looked. I could not get it just right and it took me like 1.5 hours to get it back to where I liked it. 3 times longer then the first attempt LOL.

Here is the new look, very similar to the last look just tweaked a bit. It's still a bit cloudy from the sand I kicked up.

What do you think, this way or the old way.

I think you all convinced me to keep the front of the stand clean with no hardware so no handles for now.

I LOVE THAT AQUASCAPE!!!!!

nice use of the flat rocks. looks great

also awsome lil cave... i an never do that kinda rock work... ( first rocks are all small and round second because i dont trust the stability)

Very nice tank ! congrats on all the work.

One question though, was the bottom/floor molding that you used one piece ?
