Sinistard's 68.8 Acrylic Tank Journal [Photo Intense]

The tank arrived today. It was very well packed and as far as I can tell it made it through the cross country trip undamaged. Thank you socalcreations for the help and delivering a great product.

Packaging

Outside was a cardboard box

Now I just need to get the stand done. It's all built I just need to finish painting and sealing and it will be ready to go.

Well I'm off to get some plumbing supplies so I can get started.

Everything is looking great, I love to see DIY stands. I just wish I was good at woodworking, I would love to design and build something like that. Keep us posted as you progress.
 
Thanks spalmer, I'm really happy with the way my stand turned out. I really helps having the right tools ;)

I hope to have the stand done in the next couple days, I'm probably still a few weeks out before I will be able to put water in the tank. More stuff to buy and to figure out.

Here is the tank on the stand that is like 95% done:) I just need to put on some handles on the doors and coat the inside with poly-acrylic.

I added some trim to the doors and on the ends as you can see. It is painted "silver splendor" that's the color of out molding.

Thank you all, I am very happy with the way my stand came out. Now I just need to get my plumbing, lighting, sump, fuge, etc, etc....................done, LOL

wow, your tank is comming together really well. You all sound like my wife and I. We started with a small nano tank, and now we are addicted. We are getting a 48gal sunday.

nice work. cant wait to see the outcome!
 
Pump Question

Pump Question

Well after "figuring" out my plumbing and calculating head loss on my Iwaki Md-30rlxt pump I am wondering if I will have enough flow to my returns. I think I will end up with around 585 gph from my Iwaki Md-30rlxt pump with head loss. Do you think that will be enough or should I get a bigger pump?

I was looking at the PanWorld 55R tha will end up giving me around 780 GPH and then I would use the Iwaki for my closed loop and have around 620 GPH for my closed loop.

I also wondered what the best way to plumb my Iwaki, or any pump for that matter, would be. The outlet on the pump is 1" and my returns are 3/4" would it be better to run 1" pipe most of the way and then step it down to 3/4" right before the return or just step it down right out of the pump and run 3"4 in pipe most of the way?

I'm guessing around 1-2" below the top of the tank but I'm not sure.

I'm definitely hooked, my wife really likes the stand(she helped with the design) and like the tanks but is not as addicted as I am;)
 
I have started my plumbing. These parts are not glued yet, I'm making sure everything will fit before I glue anything.

I used 1" PVC for all the return and the closed loop intakes and then stepped them down to 3/4" before all the returns.

I have union ball valves on all the returns and the closed loop intakes so I can adjust flow and so I can take out parts if needed.

On the overflow drain I used 1.5 inch PVC and then a Y fitting to split it to the sump and fuge. I dropped the side going to the sump down to 1" and the side going to the fuge to 3/4" and I am going to put on gate valves to control flow through each tank.

All the plumbing fits within 5" so I can get it as close to the wall as I possible.

That's all I could get done today since I need a couple parts to finish.

Any suggestions or comments are welcome.
