Six line thinks he's funny.....

So I get up this morning and begin my morning ritual of feeding and checking out the livestock.
All looks good untill I see my Sixline. He has white spots all over him. GREAT, Ick!!!!!
So I grab my 20 gallon tank and start setting up a quarantine.
All this time, I have a hundred things going through my head.
What about the other fish...how did this happen...how am I going to catch him...
So I get my quarantine tank ready, I get my nets ready and I walk out of the fishroom to the front of the tank to get ready.
Locate the Sixline and......no white spots.
What the h???
This Sixline is new to me and I have not observed his sleeping habits yet. But after some reading, I found that the Sixline puts out some kind of protective barrier when he sleeps. And the white spots were just bits of sand stuck to it.
Hahahaha. Good one Sixline. You got me. Lol!!

Lol. Yeah wrasses especially six lines do that my six line and blue side fairy wrasse do that when they sleep. Good luck with him.

Yeah they are beautiful little fish. One more thing watch for aggression issues with him with smaller and similar fish but that's mainly in smaller tanks.

Sixlines often do not tolerate other wrasses very well. Especially if the sixline was in the tank first.
He will have to get along. Or he will be finding a new home.
So far he does well with my Royal Gramma and Lyretail Anthia.
So we will see. I hope to get a mystery Wrasse next.

You seem to have a liking towards the most notoriously aggressive smaller Wrasses huh? Both are from the Pseudocheilinus genus, which is known for its aggressive members. If you like Wrasses and want a few, it is best to avoid this genus altogether. Here is some great basic info on the various reef-safe Wrasse genera, and some individual species: http://www.3reef.com/threads/all-about-reef-safe-wrasses.122261/#.Urg50fRDva4

That six line will kill any wrasse you add. He will kill mandarin you add in the tank too. My Sixline pair kill my mandarin in a 420 gal tank. The peck her eyes out then just ignor her and let her starve. Fortunately I got hem out before they go after the male mandarin.
I will never ever put another sixline in any of my tanks.

My mandarin and six line always got along they would even get about an inch from each other so it's just personality, but I would still avoid any other wrasse unless they are at least twice it's size

My Mandain pair and my sixline pair got a long for over a year. All very fat and plenty of 'pods' for all. Happened in a few mins. The Sixline pair decided to eliminate the competitors and go after her. They dive bombed her and she was blinded within a min or two. It was so traumatic to me because I was looking right at them when they did it. I loved my Madarin and was helpless to do anything about it.
They just completly ignored her after they peck her eyes out. Talk about evil :(

Seems that a pair of Sixlines are more likely to attack other fish than singles from what I am reading. I do not, and will not have a pair of Sixlines.
But hearing this bums me out. Cause I added a refugium to my system just to grow pods for a future Mandarin.

Thanks for this. That was a good read.
I bookmarked it for later.
I don't so much favor those wrasses as much as that's the only wrasses that my LFS commonly carries.
I would like to order stuff from Live Aquaria, but I have no way to be home when the packages are delivered.

Hmmmm I am now wondering did my six line kill my mandarin because one day my mandarin was fine and happy then an hour or so later dead and being eaten by hermit crabs what do you guys think?

Right now, my Lyretail Anthia runs my 180 gallon. And the Sixline gets along with him as well as everyone else. But I will keep my eye on him. First sign of serious aggression and he's out.

I'm planning on having two clowns which I hear can be semi aggressive and one six line. I don't think the Six line will be much of a problem since I'm getting them all as babies so will grow together and if he does become aggressive the clowns can always run to the Anemone and laugh at the Six Line.

My clown pair pay no attention to the Sixline and vise versa.
My clowns keep to themselves. And so far, the Sixline does aswell.

My Sixline was never a problem with the clowns. Now my Red Scooter Blenny and Randall's Goby is another story...it was only a matter of time until he was going to kill one of them.
