Six Line Wrasse Question

I have read a lot of posts about how aggressive this wrasse can be. Just wondering which of the fish I have could be picked on and whether I should even try a six line. I really like the color and active nature of this fish. I have a 6ft 150g tank with tons of established live rock and some soft / LPS corals. I have a few turbo snails and hermit crabs but no shrimp. For fish I have a purple tang, kole tang, flame angel, flame hawk, midas blenny, false percula clown, azure damsel, diamond watchman goby, royal gramma, green chromis and lubbock's wrasse.

My six line is the only wrasse in my tank, but he has never bothered any of the other fish. Him and my palette blue tang are buddies, often hanging out together and sleeping in the same cave. Both of them were put in tank at less than one inch. Now tang is over 5 inches and wrasse over 2". May be a problem with multiple wrasses together though. Other fish in my tank... clowns, chromis, purple dottyback.

Thanks guys. I know the six line wrasse can be a handful. I have a peaceful tank right now and don't want to stir things up.

i have this guy, a vrolik's wrasse, in my 75g reef. he is a model citizen, eats flatworms (yay!) and is totally beautiful!!

I'm a fan of the sixline and think a lot of the trouble, as with damsels and dottybacks, is due to people not totally understanding compatibility. Wrasses are likely to be picked on as are small peaceful fish like firefish, or those inhabiting similar areas such as gramma, dotties etc. Tangs and angels should be feisty enough to not be a problem.
IME they are fine until you add new fish and they see these as a threat. Quite often if you buy them small and they grow up with sensible tankmates, you won't get issues until you change the dynamic somehow.

I'm currently running a 30g with 2 clowns, chromis, 6 line, with a neon dottyback that was relegated from our other tank as he was beating up on the goby.

They seem to be doing fine right now, nothing nipped... Of all the fishes that get the most heat is the male clown from the female.... reminds me of my marriage.

Same here. Only wrasse and he is a dream. Constantly hanging with my clowns and my chromis. I had a pseudochromis (who unfortunately had a mishap and died) and no problems.

I have a bicolor blenny sixline two clowns and alongside hawk in my 34 and my wrasse is a dick, although the mirror technique is very effective I would not recommend one to anyone there are much more peaceful fish with much better personalities

The mirror technique?

I found sixlines to be OK with most fish. The only fish I wouldn't put them together with are mandarins or other wrasses.

mine has been in my tank for two years with a Melanurus and 10 other fish. never a problem. he is the smallest fish in the tank. they can hold their own and won't be picked on. I know most consider them devil fish. but I love mine and have no intention of getting rid of it.

Six line wrasse are very smart fish and will successfully eliminate any fish they see as competitor. They are efficient premeditated calculated murderers in this respect.

If I wouldn't have a pair of mandarins in my 100 gallon tank, I would add a pair of sixlines (or fourlines) without hesitation.

I love having a six line, but they can be temperamental and hard to catch when you need to remove them. I had one that was a model citizen, until I let a Pygmy angel into the tank. It took about a week to coax him into my trap. My replacement has been one of the most peaceful six lines that I've had yet. Doesn't seem to mind any new tank mates, just cruises around hunting for pods all day long.

Although I love them (see my post above), the truth is if you add one you will likely need to strip the tank to get it out should you need to. A better or less troublesome replacement would be a Pseudocheilinops ataenia which peacefully coexist with anything but just aren't as pretty.
