Thanks for the reply. I think you answered my question but just to clarify:
If there's only 1" between the wall and the side of my tank, the outside component of the magnet holder will fit within that 1". Right?
Sorry for the confusion but I envision this big magnet on the outside. You seem to be saying that the magnet on the outside is no thicker than the rail which is about 1/2".

Yes, it will fit. You will need to be very careful though with installing it. The magnet is very strong and I can see a possibility where if it snapped onto the glass quickly it will crack it. It is best to slide them together to line them up and with the small area you have to work with that will be tricky, they are only 1/2-3/4" think, the pump actually sits almost flush to the glass except for the swivel mount. The magnet is shaped like a catamaran and the actual magnets are in the outriggers which are the thickest part. This design makes it incredibly stable compared to just an algae magnet.
