LOL... I guess... Theyre like gold. You can call they guy directly... His store is Fish and other Itchy stuff in oldsmar, fl... The guys name is John and is bundle of knowledge. I just read somewhere that he just had another batch made mid-november, so you might be able to get your hands on one.

Good luck Grant

Cully... you are going to love the SRO, trust! 450Reef, I would follow in Cully's footsteps. The 3000 would certainly be a little overkill on your setup, but it would be my first choice. They are very high quality, I miss mine!

I'm surprised bubble magus wasn't mentioned, a nac7 or cs180; they seem to get good reviews too. The trigger system also has my eye. I'm getting in the market for a 200g sps skimmer and I'm sure I'll change my mind at least a dozen more times before pulling the trigger.

That was kind of what happened to me when setting up my 180. I over researched it and wound up with my head spinning. If you're looking at a skimmer for a successful SPS system, get one that's tried and true. It is merely a tool in your arsenal. I don't see one good skimmer making much of a difference compared to another good skimmer. There are so many other facets to a successful reef tank.

Thats why this time, I went with something mainstream that fit my size and height requirements along with gallon rating for my eventual planned bioload.

Pick a good one, pull the trigger, move on

my first thought was a bubble magnus cs , but everyone seems to think octo , out of the xp 3000sss and sro 3000sss which one is better?

Really depends on your set up G. I picked mine because I'm doing an under tank sump this time around. It's footprint fit the bill. Dave/Neoz had the regular SRO not the SSS and loved it. He posted pix of the absolute SLUDGE it was pulling. It is similar to my old ASM. I would have used that, but again, wouldn't fit. I think the new one will be a little quieter than the G4X. (Ha, simultaneous posts Dave)

Anyway, I started the search again and felt myself sliding off of the edge, "oooh, what about that one? or that one? or this one?".

Nope, just pulled the trigger. Now it's something I don't have to think about and I can move on. Of course it's still in the box in my basement, so I might be on here 3 months from now saying what a POS it is......so what do I know.

What are you currently running? That hasn't been set up that long has it?

thanks neoz looks great !! xp is a cone sro isnt is there a real advantage to the cone i know they turned everyone on when they came out .cully im running some no name pos right now - thank has been up for 2 weeks been doing water changes till i get a better skimmer

If I could afford a Bubble King, Deltec, or those other super expensive cone skimmers, I probably would look into it. But, I can't. And, like I said before, it's just another tool in your arsenal. If you don't keep up with anything else, a $1000 skimmer ain't gonna help ya.

Just look at some of the amazing tanks on this forum. None of those guys are running that kind of gear. TMZ, Gary M., Oneradtek, (not to slight all those I can't think of at the moment)etc... What sets them apart? They're all friggin nuts about parameters. Not, they all have expensive skimmers.

On a side note the Octopus skimmers is all I have used in my brief time as a reef keeper. I just know the sludge that my 3000 skimmer pulled was soo nasty, smelly, and thick.

I went with an overkill skimmer because I had a high bio load of fish and corals and I too feed with a heavy hand. All my fish were very plump. Probably too plump ;)

Good Luck with your decision.

Not to mislead you Grant, one way or the other. I'm not familiar with the Bubble Magus Skimmers. I clicked on BRS (they have some pretty good Black Friday Sales on stuff) and checked it out.

If you ask me, they have essentially the same design as the Octo. Octo's were originally similar to ASM's etc..... It all starts to look the same to me. That's why I was like, "just pick one!".

My criteria: (in no particular order)
size
rating (realisitc)
noise
ease of operation
ease of access and cleaning
price (within reason)
