skimmer performance based on air draw

I am wondering if how much air flow a skimmer is rated for is much of a indicator of potential performance? I am going back and forth between a few skimmers and have it narrowed down(I think) to the deltec 1455 which is rated for a 200-260 gallon tank and the pump draws 600 liters of air an hour, and the omega 180i which is rated for 92-184 gallons with air draw of 900 liters an hour. So the deltec is rated higher for tank size but draws less air. I have heard many of people say that deltec does not under rate their skimmers and I know many successful deltec owners who love them. Like wise many people own the vertex skimmers and swear by them as well. This skimmer will be going on a fairly heavily stocked 120 with a 150-160 gallon upgrade coming soon.

I would think air draw would relate directly to bubble generation, so all things equal, more air means more organic removal. Contact time is important too.

It's all about balance. Too much air relative to the body size and design can result in excessive turbulence in the body which can cause the bubbles to burst prematurely and or create too larger of bubbles. To much air in the body can also cause the bubbles to rise quicker. As I said, it is all about having a good balance between sufficient air intake, small bubble size and the appropriate amount of water relative to the amount of air for the size and design of the skimmer. Sometimes, less is more.
