skimmer pump, Help please

i'm having problems with the pump. it sounds like the impeller is bouncing around in the slot and stops working. i opened it up and everything looks ok but the pump makes a grinding noise then stops. i unpluged it and plug it a few times and it's all the same. need new impeller or pump?

i did notice the shaft does come out of the impeller pretty easily, isn't it suppose to be glued in?
