Ok so i picked up a new skimmer the other day and dont really know much about it was wondering if some could tell me more.....

Sorry no pic at the moment , wife took it to daughters dance. But will get one up soon

box of skimmer10x8x7
cylinder is 6"
smaller cylander is 3"1/2
has a gate valve as a return line which is 1"1/2
the whole unit together is 28" tall

Feeds the water through a 1.5 inch line which has an air nozzle in it about 20 inchs down to the box.

What size of a pump should i run on it? I have a 1200 gph utility pump i tried it out on and that seemed to work excelant (im only comparing to my CSS220 i was using) But need to purchase another pump for it and want to be certain it runs at max performance

Thanks

It looks like a beckett style skimmer. You might try posting in the DIY forum to see if someone there can help you

It's not an MRC, but it is similar. I have used Beckett skimmers in the past. Submersible pumps don't have the "umpf" to push water effectively through the Beckett. I used a GenX PCX-30 or 40 and then stand back and watch it perform like no other skimmer you have had before!!!

it does look like a becket skimer in which casethe more powerful teh pump the btter tyhey run... just make sure to go with a pressure rated pump

would it be possible to run it with my return pump , which is a mag 36. I am only running the 36 with the ball valve half way open? Or would it be recomended to run separte pump

Seperate. Submersible pumps are not pressure pumps. And you will need more flow than partially from your return. Most external pumps are external.

bringing back from the dead lol
Thanks
I have been running along with my return pump for the last lil bit and just like the experts say not good enough. But havent got the extra cash right now to purchase a better pump. But........ I do have a mag 36 kickin around (just waiting for a new impeller) Would that be ok on its own. Or should i sell the the mag 36 and pick up a presure pump. What would be an ideal pump to run with this skimmer?

I would suggest at the lowest a mag 9 but it will probably take a mag 12 to really get that thing to work well.

i run my mr2 with a pcx-55...it rocks....basically you want a high pressure pump that pushes about 1000gph per injector for best performance

BAM!! That is the secret, a pressure pump will make the Beckett work the best. Other pumps will work too, but not as efficiently. The Mag 36 (or even a Mag 12) will work.

2nd on the Pressure rated pump. I would try to stay away from Mag pumps. We have a 8 x 48" Custom Geo Beckett and run it with a Pan World 200. If you can find a good deal on a Pan World 150, you would have one heck of a skimmer.
