Looking for the smallest skimmer which will perform very well on an very heavy stocked 90. Been out of the hobby for a while and dont know what is good these days
i am working on a budget 65tall build with a sump and looking for a decent skimmer to get the job done, will be a decent bio load with fish coral and live rock. not looking to break the bank any suggestions
I'm in the same boat searching for a skimmer. Looking for a small footprint. Currently have a BM Curve 5 that was on my 60 cube. Now in a 93 cube and considering the Simplicity 240 which is DC powered at a good price or the Seaside Aquatics CS7. Anybody have any experience with those two skimmers. The skimmer section of the sump is 10" x 8.25". Thanks

Agree with this and definitely need to know dimensions in the sump, water depth, and height above. I wouldn't just get the smallest possible. I'd get what will fill out the space you have balanced for your tank and load. How much room do you have?
If little room RLSS R6-I and if enough room I like ATB 840 v2.
My favorite would be the atb 840v2 though for that load. That is what I have on my 90 and I have anthias that get fed around 6 times a day.
I put mine on the plastic grate. Stack a few pieces on each other.
Sorry for posting in an independent thread before this, but I didn't realize there was a thread for skimmer recommendations.
After over two years struggling with my Tunze 9410, I am just generally unhappy with its finicky nature and lack of controllability. I don't know if it's oversized or not for my tank, but I'm ready to move on to a better skimmer.
My tank is 90 gallons total water volume mixed reef with a focus on SPS, medium bioload (1 tang, 1 foxface, 2 ocellaris, midas blenny, yellow watchman, carpenter wrasse, coris wrasse, and 2 bartlett anthias), heavy feeding for the anthias.
However, my sump is quite tight so I can only fit a 12x12 square skimmer in it (or less), and I have 23" in height available. Sump height is 7.5".
I've been thinking about a few options that would work with my constraints - which would be the best for my tank?
1. RLSS R6i
2. Bubble Magus Curve 5
3. AquaMaxx C-01
I've used Reef Octopus before and have had mixed results, so I'm omitting their line for the moment.
12"x12" is plenty for a 90
I'd look at Seaside aquatics if looking at the bubble magus series. It includes a much better pump.
Seaside Aquatics ES7 is what I would do. For the Aquamaxx I'd go for the CO2 if you can fit it. Otherwise the newer cones Q-2.
Your next issue is going to be that sump depth? Is that 7.5" the water level from thee bottom up? Any way to get that a touch deeper?
For most everything listed the water level would optimally be at ore more then 8 ". The bubble magus/seaside aquatics recommends over 9". The CO1 wants over 9". The Aquamaxx CO2, and the CoQ-2 recommends 8" and may do fine at 7.5" just possibly a bit more touchy.
