Mojo for the same price which would you buy. Super Reef Octopus XP-2000 Cone Skimmer Or Super Reef Octopus 2000 Internal Skimmer , and why?

Mojo what do you think of the new SWC 150 BMK? Looks like an outstanding skimmer.

Personally I think they will jack up the price like they did with the 120, 160 cone's

Depends on the tank size. smaller tank the internal. larger tank the cone.

The neck on the int is smaller than the neck on the xp. So say 120g + go to the cone. then at 180g I would go to the 3000 model.

the 150 bmk works well, I dont see the price going up nor te need for it too. Works well but most of the parts are injection molded. Made more inexpensive than the machined part skimmers. it feels solid though. Pretty good value.

Hi I' just got a percision marine bullet one skimmer a few weeks ago and am having trouble getting it set right it seems to collect good for a while when I first set it collecting some greenish skimate but when the foam goes down like after a feeding or hands in the tank it never seems to get back to collecting the foam never gets foamy enough to make it back up to the cup
Could it be that the water is clean?

tell me more about your setup. load ect. What are you feeding ? how much food and what pump are you using on the skimmer

Hi

Hi

Goona have to get back to you on the pump but it's a monster
I have a 75 gal tank with a 20 gal sump the skimmer just fits in the sump
I change 20 gal a month and I feed a variety of food every other day usually mysis

I started another thread but then I saw this one so I guess I can get more help here. I have a 150g tank that I want to have a mixed reef but mostly sps dominated what skimmer out of these would you recommend ? or do you think there are better ones for the money ? I would like to keep it under 400 and be a fairly quit skimmer since it will be going in my room. I know the MRC needs a motor to go with it but I have a mag 9.5 that I can maybe use with it.
Thanks in advanced!
ATI Bubble Master 200 Protein Skimmer $349
SWC Xtreme 200 protein Skimmer $289
MRC MR-2 PROTEIN SKIMMER [MR-2] $380
Reef Dynamics INS180 Protein Skimmer $399
SRO 2000 cone $399

I posted this earlier any advice ?

So what is the consensus on a vinegar bath for a new skimmer? Is it worth the trouble? On a recirc model like I am getting,Octopus DNWB-150, can I just seal off the input and output and run it in place for a few hours with some vinegar and warm water?

I never give them a vinegar bath new. Only when cleaning up.

Takes longer for them to break in in my opinion.

Folks,

I have a new build pending on a 120g SPS dominate reef with moderate bio-load. Tank will be setup using a ULNS system like Prodibio or MB7 and vodka, which needs a powerful skimmer. I have been using an older ATB Small Cone, but wondering if something better might be out there.

Any suggestions on a skimmer in the $1200-1500 price range for my tank?

Thanks,
L3

for a 150g. The SRO would be a really good fit. THe vertex in 180 and the new octo extreme xs series with the sicce syncra pump 200 model.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mojo,
But if it was your own tank and you were looking for a skimmer which one would you choose ? And if you can can you put them in order of one's you would choose ? thanks

I have the bmk 150 running on my 40 breeder right now. I ll have to go measure some for you. But it would work well for you. I think the smaller swc 120 would be too small. If the bmk 150 by chance wont work the ocean force 100 would work.

Hi Mojo, I have taken your advice and ordered a swc 150 bmk. Thanks!
