Mojo:
I read a post in the CLOSED Bubble Magus Skimmer Club thread where someone removed the bubble cup and plate from thier BM NAC6 skimmer and got better skimming as a result.
I did just that and over a week long period I can see much better performance than ever before with this skimmer. Nothing else has changed in my tank. The skimmate bubbles are very dry and the collected fluid is darker and thicker. :eek2:
I was trying to understand why it is working and one of the things I could see whilst the cup and bubble plate was on is that the foam at the neck of the skimmer bounces due to turbulance. With the bubble up and plate off there is no turbulance. This version of the NAC6 comes with the Atman 2500 pump.
I am impressed with this skimmer even more now. But I am just wondering if BM put that bubble cup and plate more as a gimmick to show that thier skimmers have the same design as what other manufacturers have, except they probably didnt test the performance? Ie this is probably where other manufacturers spend on R&D?
I think the bubble cup and plate is too small - perhaps slight pressure builds up and is then released causing the foam head to bounce (ie the turbulance)?
I would just like to know your opinion just to understand the skimmer a little more, so thank you in advance for any thoughts you post about this.
I may put the bubble cup back on with a modified bubble plate, ie with more holes? Perhaps this will improve on the stock bubble plate?
