Skimmer Q&A Thread

are there any sro 1000 externals and i hate to ask the same question agian but do u think the sro 1000 can handle 110 total net gallons cuz my sump is really full
im wonderin if i should look at another brand?

What is your tank size and load ?

skimmer advice please..... i am starting a 210 reef.. looking at a asm g4x,also a reef dynamics skimmer.and octopus....i like the price of the asm but dont like the fact its made with extruded acyrilic. am i being to fussy?

well extruded or cell cast isnt going to change performance a whole lot. The Aquamaxx am 250 will be a upgrade from the g4 and is cell cast acrylic. Also it has an upgraded sedra 9000HO.

The SRO 3000 int would be a good choice too. What is your sump water depth?

How do you know when your Skimmer is No Longer meeting its Demand ?

well take a look at your current load and what you have for a skimmer. Then how is your skimmer and tank doing. are you having issues with ammonia trates and trites ? if so you could be leaving dissolved solids in the tank.

What is your tank size and load ?

my tank is 50 gallons with a full 70 gallon sump filled with live rock

i only have a 4 line wrasse, but i plan on maby having a pair of clowns, royal gamma, and seudo chromis or chalk bass

thanks for all ur help

yeap the 1000 would work just fine for you.

Mojo,
The sump is a 100g tractor supply rubbermaid container (not 150g like i thought).. the water level will be about 15".. (i currently have a stand in there now for the octo..
I am pretty happy with how the RO-X 200 performed in the other tank so maybe go with the sro 300 int?
$ wise, I'd like to not get above $500. i can also get a ati bm300 as well for under $500.. what are your thought on that? Thanks!

i have a octo extreme 200 with upgraded wheel now..

i will be upgrading to:
180g DT (upstairs - with drains, etc going to basement)

(basement - connected together)
150g rubbermaid sump (will prob only have 55-75g in it)
55-75g fuge
60g frag tank

potentially a seperate DSB - either part of fuge or 20-30g...

i will have a mixture of sps, lps, etc and atleast a medium if not heavy fish load. i doubt if the octo x 200 would be ok for this... what are your thoughts? thanks
mike

yea i would want to movemore water through my skimmer than what the 200 does. check out the aquamaxx am250, the sro 3000 int and the hurricone cat 1. the atb 1050a would be awesome and great service. not sure what u wanted to spend or sump depth

Ok setting up a new tank and need some skimmer advice tank is 110 tall with 30gal sump
choosing from three but open to others
BM nac8
Aquamaxx 250
Aquac ev 180

if you like the SRO 3000 int. It would work really well for you. better than the older ati bm 300

BM nac8
Aquamaxx 250
Aquac ev 180

The aquamaxx would be good but just a little too big. The NAC 8 is actually a really good performer. The ev 180 is kind of loud and uses a spray injector. Not really a good way of making it quiet or more efficient.

you are awesome by the way for answering everyones questions!!!

last one for me....maybe.... :o)

is the extra $ worth it in my situation to get the octopus cone xp3000in vs the sro 300 int? the sro is cheaper, but if there is a big diff in performance, then...
thanks
again

Ok the nac 8 seems to be hard to find, Would the nac 7 work for my tank. And how long did you run yours? Wondering about the pump. reliablility

socaltropical had them last time i looked. But the Nac 7 does work well too. The Atman 2500 pumps are the same exact ones on the swc 150 and 160 cone. inexpensive pumps but they do work well. only had mine a couple months.
