Skimmer Q&A Thread

Does anyone have a recommendation?

I've already checked the Sicce 1000, Tunze hydrofoamer 9420, ATB airstar, and Aquamaxx pumps, specifically.

I wouldgo sicce psk 1000 or the BB 2000 would probably be a better fit. I think you would be pleased with the bb 2000 E

What are your thoughts on the EShopps S-120? I can find it at my LFS for the same as online which is a plus but otherwise your original recomendations are:
1) Sea Side Aquatics CS-1
2) Octo XP-1000SSS

My sump is running at 9" Deep in the sump section but could always build a shelf if I need too.

What are your thoughts on the Eshopps vs a few more bucks for one of the other two?

The Eshopps are ok. But I would still get the Seaside cs1 or the octo 1000.
 
Hello, I have a 57g dt (36"x18"x21") and a sump (30"x18"x16") water height 14". I have large colonies of SPS and a medium fish load. I am looking for an in-sump skimmer, limitations are smaller than 13"x13"x30". Water turnover is 1000gph.
 
need recs on skimmer,

current 75 with heavy bioload, maxing out euroreef rs80.

looking at avast cs1, atb 840 or sro 2000.

want same build quality as euroreef
looks like avast has smaller cup than the others.

ideas

sump water depth 9"


getting 120 reef in a year,

I'm trying to make a final decision on a new skimmer for my 75g reef. Based on advice here and research I'm between the SRO 2000 or JNS SK2, both internal. I want to use the skimmer on the 75g now, but plan to upgrade to 120-150g tank in the coming year, so looking for some flexibility. Any final arguments on one versus the other? Or has something new come out I should consider?

Can you put the skimmer on a stand ? 14 inches is really pretty deep.

The avast is probably a little big. The atb 840 is a really nice and the SRO 2000 is super nice too. All would work well but not at 9 inches. The avast maybe but I would look at The sea side aquatics CS1 or the JNSsk2/aquamaxx cone 2. Those would be a little better fits IMO. I really like my jns sk2. Even after all the skimmers I have had. The seaside has a internal pump for a smaller footprint. Both built pretty well. Another contender that is coming out soon would be the new ASM cones too. I believe it is the gc3. Havent got it yet but the other two are super nice for sure.

they would both work. If you are going to upgrade then the 2000 xp would be better than the 2000int. But I think the JNS sk2 would do both really well. They are both going to de well. No arguements either way. I think the jns is built just a little better. Its very nice for the $$

How about the Bubble MAgus NAC6A on a 65 gallon SPS tank? Would that be a good match? What else would you recommend for a 65 gallon SPS tank?

Hey Mojo, i have been reading through your thread, trying to figure out what skimmer to get next or if i can just upgrade the pump in mine and be all set.

I have a BM 180CS that pulls around 500l of air(around there?) and im guessi need to up the ante to around 1200l or maybe 1500.... to match it up to my 275ish Total water volume. The display is 210G and the rest is a sump, refugium, and frag tank.

My idea is to retro in a BB HY-3000 make a new bubble plate, and make it a little bigger. I have tons of acrylic tools, but want to know if you think this is a good idea. The body is about 8" looking at the plate its 9" about 1/2" between the plate and the body. I plan to fit the pump on the outside so that the bubbles have more contact time. That would run me roughly 225 dollars to do. 200ish for the pump, and like 15 for a section of Acylic plus shipping...

Or forget it all and just get the SRO3000.....

Advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you for all your hard work!

The 3000 is the way to go really. It will be better balanced you can sell your old one and call it a day.

yeap the nac 6 would do fine, the SSA cs1, the sro 1000, and the octo xs 160 would also be good options.

Last question Mojo, lol.... I see several different options for this skimmer, which one would you suggest i go with? right now the tank is still fresh and cycling(month 3) and the skimmer i have is doing ok fill the cup every other day and its dark nasty stuff....

Eventualy the tank will be fully stocked with SPS frags so deff want to ensure i get the right one i dont want to upgrade again lol

I am setting up a 29 gallon reef and my sump is too small for a huge skimmer in it. My sump is 24" x 9" x 15" so I purchased the Hydor Koralia Slim-Skim but I'm really interested in a larger skimmer after reading and researching more. I still have a 1' x 1' area available in my stand and I think I want an external skimmer since my sump is rather narrow. My system is currently dry as I have been making purchases over the past few months, but I am looking to fill it this week pending one plumbing item's arrival this week.

Can anyone recommend an external skimmer that would be best for my tank? Money isn't really the limiting factor for me....but size is. :sad2:
