I'm looking for help in deciding on a skimmer for a 125 with a 30 sump that will start out fowlr then will progress into a reef. I have it narrowed down to one of these 2, sro2000int or the sro3000int. I'm hoping the 2000 will be enough because, the 3000's foot print could get to be a problem.
I was going to read through this thread to see if I could find the answer to my question until I saw 101pages. Good thread.
I have a 120gl display with a 29 glsump, G2 skimmer with a 350gph pump pushing water through it. The tank has been set up and running for 5+years, although I just purchased it about 3 months ago.
Thecquestion, I dont seem to be getting much skim from the skimmer, and by much I mean there has never been any skim in the cup, although there is always a healthy coat on the riser for the cup that I clean once a week. I feed one cube of frozen daily, 1/4 sheet of algae twice a week, and pieces of squid and mysis to anemones twice a week to.
Bio load:
Blue tang
Perc clown
6 line wrasse
2 Gobies
PJ Cardinal
Some soft corals, mushrooms, frog spawn, toadstool.
I have cleaned the skimmer and the pump. It all seems to be working well. Am I getting all of the skim I should, or is it low for my tank?
Ok, Mojo!!! Need a new skimmer for a 120g dt with 40g sump, I would call it a medium load currently, but need some room to grow.
JNS sk2/aquamaxx cone2 , atb 840 v2, bk mini 160/180 gen 2,SRO 2000xp. those are all great fits for you.
the 2000 int will be great. No worries. the bubble blaster 2000 pump is quiet the workhorse.
MAke sure you run it low enough. about 6 to 6.5 inch water depth.
Would you pick one over another if all are within my price range?
I have always loved the bk mini skimmers. so easy to clean and work well. Second would be the ATB. Just great service from ATB. The JNS sk2 would be a great value compared to the the first two. THe sro is great skimmer too. The bubble blaster pumps are really nice. And with the subtle changes they are more quiet now too.
hope that helps.
Just ordered super reef octopus 2000 internal skimmer today for my 120 gallon with 20 gallon sump. Debated on the 2000 SSS model but I saved 140 bucks and I'm sure that it will fit in the sump.
I just received and installed my new SRO xp2000int on my 120g today!!! Up and running in under 1 hr (including removing old skimmer). Already giving me some gunk. If you have not built a platform already you may need to raise the skimmer up some to get it to around 5.75 to 6 inch deapth which is what SRO recomends. Only thing I need to get is a right pvc elbow. Get a fair amount for water movement noise because the outflow ends up being about 50% covered at that depth.
