Skimmer Q&A Thread

There are two H&S skimmers for sale in the threads one is a 200 X1260 external and the another one has 3 ehiem pumps. More than enough for your setup and under 1k.

Hi Skim-mates :)
I am moving from a 72g to a 180g with 120g rock tank and a 40g sump.
I have a Trigger Systems Bursa Skimmer that says it is rated for 400g.
I looking around for an external skimmer (sump does not have room) i see that most skimmers are ratted for way less - the SRO 3000 is HUGE :) and only does 300g.

So, Am i missing something? Is the TS Bursa good for 400g? Should I be sticking with it and adding a home for it to my sump (already did it but on the wrong side so all the bubbles are going into my main tank UGH)?

Thanks for everyone's help!

Skimmer recommendation please

Sps 250 gallon display (960l to be exact), 90 gallon refugium (330l to be exact), 25 gallon frag (100l) 25 gallon equipment sump(100l)

My contenders are -
Sro 3000xp
Sro 5000xp
Reef octopus pov dc-2
Royal exclusive double cone 250

Additional info, I will be running triton ( not sure if you guys heard of this), it's basically balling and big algae beds, idea is no water change (other than salinity correction) (what can I say, I am lazy!)

recommend a skimmer for a 72 gallon tank with a 40 gallon sump (bout 20 gallons of actual water in it). Also, I would like the skimmer to be able to fit a 50G cube and 20Long sump, as I may downgrade. I havent decided just yet.

I'm looking at the Eshopps Cone Skimmer S-150 or S-200 for a total volume of 110...any thoughts or other suggestions? Medium + on the bio load.

Thanks

Hello, I have a tunze 9002 nano skimmer in the middle compartment of my biocube 29, And I have never pulled sludgy skimmate out, ether nothing, or some crusties on the lid and around the top of the cone. Or if I turn the dial up it just fills with green water :S. The tank inhabitants are, 2 clowns, 1 coral beauty and 1 Yellow wrasse 3 snails and one hermit. Am I not getting allot of skimate because the bio load isn't very high? I have a small basket of Cheato in front of the skimmer thats doing well. I have youtubed tuneing a skimmer but am still unsure on really what it should be doing?

Edit: I have alot of sps doing very well, Little to zero nitrates, I feed the 3 LPS colonies once a week and my GBTA twice a week as well. I feed the fish once or twice a day, depending if the clowns beg :S

^^^ Sorry to say that is how a 9002 works usually a wet skimmate or crude on inside of the cup, since your tank is doing well then I guess it is doing a great job.

Skimmer choices......

So I have a standard 60"x18"x20" tank with a 22"x13" wet dry .I'm moving the tank and upgrading to a 30"-36" sump/ fuge(not sure yet). I have an AQUA C EV120 ,do I keep it or upgrade? Some possibilities are Precision Marine RL150 , ASM G1 or CPR skimmer that comes with their Aqua pro fuge. Any opinions / other options would be welcome . The tank is mixed with a dozen small fish + 2 Tangs , a mystery wrasse and LPS / SPS.

Thanks for the input

My stock sicce psk2500 died and I had a sedra 5000 laying around so I tried it on the ATB840. Here is less then a days worth. I am having doubts if I need to upgrade pumps?

I aslo have a 90 w/30 sump and I ordered an Eshopps S-200 cone skimmer from Marinedepot...they matched another site who had it much lower and got an extra 10% off so it came at $338.61 w/free shipping...it should arrive today. I have several reef buddies who have them and they work great.

Ok, so I'm planning a sps, heavy bioload190 or 150, with 70 gal sump filled with great LR. Choosing a skimmer has proven difficult. Price range would be 500-750. Was thinking reefocto brand but is there a better choice? Thanks

I have a SeaSide Aquatics CS2 skimmer, and it won't fill up all the way to produce any sort of skimmate. The bubbles won't reach the top of the cone... It is in about 1' of water. I have tried it at many different depths and none seem to work..

Can anyone help?

appreciate all the help you have provided!

I'm setting up a 93 cube with the stock stand which only has 25" of clearance (not including sump thickness). going with LPS on this tank, medium fish load. focus on this tank is keeping it quiet.

looking at the BK160, vertex alpha cone 170, sro2000, SKIMZ SK 181 Kone E-Series. which do you prefer and what other skimmers do you recommend? can you rank these and any others in order of preference?

thanks!
