Skimmer Q&A Thread

Hey guys I'm sure this is covered somewhere in this huge thread but can't find any info. I recently purchased a new vertex alpha 200. I started it up in my brand new aquarium and for the first day it worked like a champ. Then by morning it had overflowed. Keep in mind the skimmer is new and so is the system. I've been out of the game for awhile and my assumption is that it's still breaking in but can some one verify that for me? Any ideas? I have tried to find as many YouTube vids as possible and read the manul multiple times. The water height is correct at 10" which the sump was made specifically for.

I have a Nyos Quantom 160 skimmer.
My DT is around 60 gallons, and I have a blue and yellow tang, 2 clown fish, a royal dottyback and snowflake eel.
Total water volume is around 70 gallons.

The skimmer has a hard time produce skim mate. Sometime there is nice foam out at the cup, but the most time there is not.

I have my own little idea, that its because the skimmer is to large for my rather small system. Could that be the reason, I have problems making it skim good?
A lot of people I have talked too, say it's not to big, but what do you say in here? :-)

That sounds to me exactly what is happening.

Vertex skimmers take a bit to break in and some models are very touchy and hard to get set right. A few models are know to overflow too.

Yep, i would not suggest a 200 or over. Seems to get a lot more bad reviews for the larger ones. The 180 and under seems to get a lot of great reviews.

I was afraid so. Need to get myself a new skimmer then.

What's the best skimmer, for a ank on my size? -and most quiet skimmer?
If money is out of the question, what would you take? I just want the best and most quiet skimmer, then I will get the money for it

Look at the ATB Nano One skimmer.
 
I have a question about the Bubble Magus curve 5 skimmer, if anybody is familiar with this skimmer some help would be greatly appreciated. I just received the skimmer 4 days ago ran it in vinegar water for several hours. its recommended water height is 8" to 10" or so I currently have it sitting in 2" of water on an egg crate stand I made, it's set on wide open MAX and it still overflowing and producing a lot of wet skim mate? Is this a breaking in period how long should it go like this for, HELP please.

Hey got a ?... I have a asm-g3 skimmer with sedra 5000 on it. I am having problems with the pump now and would like a new pump. Seen a coral box dc pump from fish street. think its the dc 2000 needle wheel. I like the control option. Now will this work on my skimmer with out issues..

Does anyone know where I can find a RLSS R6-l for sale? Can't find them anywhere.I can find the Rlss R8-l but am concerned it will be alittle big for my system. 75 gal sps with heavy fish load.

The 8 would be too big..
They should become available pretty soon as Coralvue picks them up.
I got a email from someone who got a bunch in-stock but I think they sold fast.
 
Very happy Coral Vue is picking up the RLSS. I want to see what they come out with next and any more development on the waveline series, puck, side mounted open volute skimmers, etc.

Need to update on my newest skimmer here though.
