Is a Deltec SC1455 too big for Reefer 170 tank? Around 34G

Someone is selling it 2nd hand.

I'm currently using BM Curve 5 and I never get dark/black skim, it all collects on the lid and top of the inner portion of the cup.
I tried dialing it but always same.

I initially wanted to get the DC version SC1351 but it was twice the cost of the BM.

What happens if I use the 1455 rated at 1000+litres for my 170litre tank?

What did you decide? Does that person still have it for sale?

No, it was sold pretty quick.

Still with the BM.

Still debating switching to deltec to see if it's more efficient at skimming.
There's so few reviews on them though even on uk sites

34 gallon tank is pretty small and a deltic skimmer other than a MCE300 is going to be to big. Just like your BM Curve 5 (too big) that is why the skim mate collects on the neck.

I have a reefer170 and deltec sc1351. I love it. Even though skimmate collects in the neck of my skimmer I have a problem collecting foam in the cup because the lack of bioload on my small system. If you can get the 1455 for a steal get it. The worst that would happen is the neck would collapse like mine and skimmate would collect in the neck opposed to the cup. Keep in mind that this doesn't matter and as long as you clean the skimmer neck and cup weekly or every other week, like I do, you'll be fine.

I have always owned skimmers larger than what my system volume is. I always do this in case I plan a slightly larger build. The 1455 would allow you to upgrade to 150-170 ish gallon system with high stockload. The battlecorals website says 210 gallons high stocking but I always go 20-30% under this for my personal rating.

Hope this helps,

Jared

Forgot to mention,

One of the things I love about my deltec is how quickly the foam head recovers after feeding or hands in the tank. It has been my fastest recovering skimmer ever.
