Skimmer Skimmate

New job requires a bit of travel and wife doesn't want to deal with the dirty work. I usually empty them weekly. How do you guys deal with overflow skimmate while away?

Does your skimmer cup have a hole in the bottom with a tube connected to go to a remote spot? I had a avast marine skimmate collector. It had auto shut off if it reached maximum capacity.

Or you could pay someone in the area to maintain a few small things.

Or you can find a new one that will help you when you need.

Last one was just a joke. She is your team mate though

Drill a small hole in your skimmer cup and super glue a hose into it and run into a bucket.
Cheers! Mark

I use a Reef Octopus 6" waste collector. I clean my cup once or twice a week, but with the auto waste collector we can go away for a month and it works great. It has an auto shut off in case it fills to the top so it won't overflow. If you really want to make it hands off, you can add a skimmer neck cleaner as well.

You could also buy a replacement RO collection cup with a drain plug, but it looks like they're about $60. Cheaper route would be to do as suggested and create your own. You could probably just drill a hole and use some acrylic glue to attach a drain (just cut a piece off an acrylic tube from Tap Plastics).

Mike, sounds like an easy task for you. Can you do that for me? LOL I afraid the cup will crack when drill (not a handyman)

Get an Avast Marine Davey Jones? Locker, they have a 5g collector and now it's Apex (or other) ready, shuts off the skimmer when full.
That should be good enough for a few trips.
A small version is also available.
All you need is a port hole on the skimmer cup.

You don't have to drill the neck of the cup, it is the bottom of the collection cup that has to be drilled; a proper size bit and a tap will do for a nice job so you can shut-off the drain with a valve.

Don't even have to drill the bottom, just need a hole before the cup gets full.
