Skimmer Upgrade

I know this has never been asked...Looking for a skimmer to replace my coralife 220 super-skimmer. Currently have a medium stocked 180 mixed reef with a 100gal sump. In the near future will add a 75 gal fish only tank to the same system (my wife likes the angel/butterfly fish).
I was looking at the ETSS 600xr but don't like the large pump needed (Iwaki 40) which I have.
I have always had brown algae and was told this skimmer would help?
Is there anything I should be looking at?
Anyone have any other suggestions (around the $500.00 range)?

Thanks
Ed

For just a little more $, look at the Hurricone CAT-1. Has a very strong pump and the Askoll 1500 which draws lots of air.

Also look at the new Vertex IN-280. It's a large 10" body with a wide 6" neck. Bubbleplate and under $500. It just came out, and all the other sized Vertex's are getting great reviews.

IMHO, stick with what is proven to work.......Deltec, H&S, Euro-reef, octopus. Even if you have to find a used one, these skimmers are built with parts that, even used, are more tested and proven than a lot of the newer skimmers coming out.

Boy there sure are a lot of choices!
Is the downdraft a better skimmer design(putting more oxygen in the water)?

Thanks
Ed

How about the DDNW-250 OCTOPUS RECIRCULATING SKIMMER. I have not seen any reviews but would be interested to hear what people have to say about them.
