skimmer woes

i have a corallife 125 needle wheel skimmer that recently started acting up. i took the pump apart and the shaft was broke, so i made a replacement out of stainless. but the problem is still there. no foam and hardly any swirl, plenty of water coming out of the return. any ideas.

Sounds to me like its not getting any air.....check the venturi.

yep that was it thanks. the hole was plugged with salt creep.

Every couple weeks I heat up a small glass of RODI water in the microwave and stick the air line in it so it pulls water thru the venturi to keep the skimmer running clean.

I think I would know immediately if my venturi isn't working - I'd be able to hear myself talk. Is it just my venturi that sounds like you are sucking with a straw the last bit of malt at the bottom of the cup?
