I need some suggestions. I accidentally dropped my skimmer and now theres are huge crack around the base....Is there anyway I can fix this? This really sucks... and just when I thought I was going to hop back in... :( Thanks.

Jay

edit: It's an ER ES53. Looking at it it's crack pretty much all the way around...

Weldon is an acrylic glue that you can get at tap plastics. They also sale an acrylic filler as well. Sorry to hear about your luck Jay.

Thanks Mark. Should I just have a new body built? I mean order a cylinder from tap plastics? What bad luck...

No big deal at all if it's just a crack.
That skimmer is an in sump model correct?

That means there will be little to no preesure on the crack and little to no water will leak through it (No pressue no leaking)

Just get some Weld-On, I think I might have some laying arround you can use but I'm in Sac :(
Put it along the crack and don't worry about it..

Hey Steve

It's the skimmer I got from you awhile back. Actually I spent this weekend modding it to be a external recirculating skimmer. And I was so proud of it... I was going to show it off..

I don't know if a crack would describe it well enough... pretty much the body has about 4 inches left that holding everything together... Its split almost all the way around....I guess I'll give weldon a shot.

Skimmer from me??
Well if it's almost broken in half that's different, but weldon will still repair it no problem.. just might take some work getting it to stay while the glue sets

A few minutes to bond. I would say no more than 10. You might apply the weldon and then put something heavy on th etop to keep the pressure on it. It is a liquid and you can apply more than one layer once it tacks up.

Heres my crack....haha sorry...even with this i have humor..

nasty looking... I'll try to make a run out the taps for some weldon this weekend. Thanks for all your help guys.

another thing you can try is go to their (TAP Plastics) scrap bin and pick out a couple sheets of their thinnest acrylic. You may need to cut it to size, or you might get lucky and just use it as they cut it for the bin. Take the thin (and I mean barely larger than paper thin) sheets and start layering them around the cylinder covering the crack (and overlapping the "good" areas of the cylinder). I would even consider using Weldon 16 (comes in a red tube and is pretty thick.. if I got the # right :)). Give each layer a little time to cure then put another on. You might even consider taking the pipe out of the skimmer and patching the entire body then re-drilling the holes.

I have had trouble weldon'ing a crack in an ER skimmer body, especially one down near the output pipe exit. But this layered approach should do trhe trick for ya, and for $10 or so (and most of that being the weldon).

Best of luck and post how it all turned out :)

wait sparkss I don't get it... put multiple layers over the cracked part of the skimmer and also over the rest of body?
