Skimmerless Ecosystem using "Miracle Mud?"

Yes, I use it in my refuigium and it works well but I still have a skimmer. I think its a good product but me personally would not use it in place of a skimmer. Im sure you could do it if you wanted to, I had a pump issue on my skimmer and it was not working for about 10 days, I don't think the fish or corals cared much.

I had a mud refugium for a while and then put in cheato and the chaeto more beneficial, I ran it like that for about 7 months then added a skimmer and the skimmer made a big difference.

I am using a mud refugium combining Walt smith Fiji mud and Garf Grunge lite and have had great results. I added a skimmer about a month later and havent looked back. Skimmerless systems are possible but I just stayed with what I know. Miracle Mud is very expensive for what it is and it is not Ocean based either.

I'll sell you some mud from my alley for $10? Probably the same thing anyways... :p

Get your self a good skimmer and use macro algae to help with nutrients.

I used the mud as well for a while, tried the kent biosediment and never looked at the mud again. Also I agree the skimmer is not an optional piece of equipment. In fact I believe it should be the most expensive single piece of equipment on the tank.

That article you linked is 11 years old. We've come a long way since then.

Jeff,

I guess after a while all these pointless posts adds up to your 4654 posts?

I was just saying that technology has come a long way since then. Why did you write that?

bugapimpp wrote that because he is an internet troll. He waits for people to disagree with his posts and then attacks them for something not relevent.
For every person that you find that liked Miracle Mud, you will find 12 that found it completely useless or worse. It was the flavor of the day back when...

buggapimp5.0 - 76 and counting :)

I would not discount MMud that much, I ran a system with and without it and I always had better results with the system with MMud. The Stony Corals just seems happy with good polp extension like there were feeding all the time.

To be honest I think its stuff like Iron and other elements it puts in the water that helps. Also makes good breeding ground for pods it seems.

I think you can have great success with or without. But a good Skimmer is key and will always be need IMO.
