I would not discount MMud that much, I ran a system with and without it and I always had better results with the system with MMud. The Stony Corals just seems happy with good polp extension like there were feeding all the time.
To be honest I think its stuff like Iron and other elements it puts in the water that helps. Also makes good breeding ground for pods it seems.
I think you can have great success with or without. But a good Skimmer is key and will always be need IMO.

How long does the "miracle nutrients" usually last before they need to be replaced or replenished? did you ever have to "replenish" the mud or replace it? if so how long after you initially put it in?
