skimmers deltec vs. tunze vs CSS

ok due to sump size constraints i am down to either the deltec mc500 or the tunze 9020 or the coralife superskimmer 125 or 220 ( if it fits) which would you go with. i know deltec has the best reputation. but tunze has a great reputation (with pumps at least) and the tunze is rated to a higher gallon tank. I wish i could say cost wasnt a factor but of course it is which is why i need justification to purchase a more expensive skimmer hence the coralife...

If this is for your 65 I don't think you want a Tunze 9020, the 9005 should work.

I have to ask. Does Coralife make a skimmer that can compare to a Tunze or Deltec? I've always thought of Coralife as junk?

Juts wondering.

I have not used any skimmer mentioned but from what I've read the Deltec is a great skimmer.

tunze will do a ok job but water level must be constant for it to skimm

the deltec is a little extra how many more skimers do you want to buy (can be used for a upgrade in tanks)

Spending limit of $500 with limited space (ASM G2 is too big).
for a 29g + sumps and ref. probably not going to be upgrading any time soon (if anything a 75g max)

Upgrading from an AquaC urchin with mag3 mod (not pleased with performance).

I have a Deltec AP600 on my 58 gallon and love it. I don't have any experience with Tunze Skimmers, but i did have a CSS 65. There is no comparison !!!

I really liked the CSS125 when I was using it(I still own it and keep it for emergencies,as an extra skimmer, etc), but the deltec will, and does skim circles around it. The css is the best price /performance (budget minded) leader, but the deltec crushes it hands down if you can afford to part with tha benjamins.

wow that deltec really does skim. as far as my budget i will go as high as getting the deltec mc500 but i would rather spend the money for a CSS i think i may go with the happy medium of the tunze 9010. The tunze 9010 comes with a sump kit that allows it to be in flucuation water levels with out much of a problem. it is also rated to over 250 gallons so if i do up grade i can still use it. i talked to roger about the tunze comline doc skimmer and he said that only 16 have been sold in the US so far so if you guys know anyone i would love to see it in action.

tunze 9010 suppose to handle load twice that of mc500. Can I say 9010 is at least on par if not better than mc500?

With the sump kits the Tunze DOC skimmers work fine in sumps where the water level fluctuates.

Umm, you can buy SIX or SEVEN coralife 65's for the price of a deltec AP600...

you are right but have seen many coralife 65 on the back of tanks and let me tell you that is one ugle piece of equipment with the big pump, the big air bubble box

than you see the pic of the deltec and it looks rather clean


deltec has been making skimmer for a long time and coralife about 8 months

If you can afford it, go with Deltec. I'm planning on upgrading myself in the near future.

I'm actually looking into getting a group together for a discount with a group purchase.
