Skimmers Suitable for 10" Sump Depth?

So I'm finally going to do something about the skimmer on my 37 not working. The water depth on the sump skimmer compartment is 10" and will cause my current Euroreef CS5-2 to overflow in less than a minute (tried both the ones I own). I need something that will work at that depth or possibly a recirc model as it should eliminate the issue altogether. I'm leery of the cheaper Chinese recircs (also don't want a cup drain on it) and the other recirc models are kind of expensive. Are there any non recircs that anyone has used at that depth successfully? Would one of the new Bubblemaster BM-150s work if I could ever find one? Thanks.

Just build a platform that raises your current skimmer 3 inches. all you need is pvc parts, egg crate and zip ties.

Already thought of it, I'm limited on clearance. Much higher and I have trouble removing the cup even with the little clearance that usually takes.

I think 6 - 8" is pretty typical depth for an in sump skimmer. It doesn't matter with a recirc.

You can do a recirc mod to the skimmer you have if you dont want to buy a new one.

reefgeek sells the BM150 you have to email them and order it. Is it possible to lower the water level in your sump?

Not without removing the baffles, which would be extremely difficult. It's a custom acrylic sump designed to fit under the 37 gallon Oceanic stand. Not much width so I had to go up for volume.

How about drilling some holes in the baffle(s)

I'd rather not as that's kind of permanent. I may see if someone local can perform a recirc mod on the Euroreef.

Did someone build that sump for you or is it a mass produced product?

One of our local club members. Did a nice job too. I got the basic design off a thread here.

Any chance you could get him to come over and modify the water level in the skimmer chamber? I just hate to see you spend money on a new skimmer when it is a water level problem.

I have a Reef Octopus NW150 that sits in 10" of water, and I'm very happy with its performance.

It has a drain in the cup (at least the recirc model does). This skimmer is going in my children's room and I don't want anything external to the tank. Any collection device would have to be.

I would hate to spend the money too. I'm looking into modifying the ER to a recirc at the moment. It can be done, just not by me. ;)
