Skimz skimmer club

Adjustment is tough. I should be patient and let it break in fully before messing around too much. But...so far, my best results are from: full throttle, 15 lpm air, gate adjusted accordingly. It may be a bit much for the body to handle. I may eventually end up dropping down to 4-5 on the pump power to stop the bubbles from escaping out the bottom.

I have my 203 running at 4. But my tank is a medium load, bio pellet 120 gallon setup. Seems to be working well. It is starting to produce skimmate similar to the deltec.

This is neat too. I can see the break in process occurring:

Might be a little disappointed in the SM203. Seems like I am not getting much air or water draw. My Diablo was so white all you could see where bubbles. I have my gate almost all the way closed. The air intake needle is set half way in. And there is tons of turbulence with little air.

How deep in the water is it? What speed are you running. I have noticed you get the smallest most uniform bubbles by closing the air valve down almost all the way. It also raises the water level.

Mine is really starting to pull out some darker skimmate. It has been running for about 5 days now.

I have used my plastic metric ruler. I have set it exactly as the directions suggest. I am right in the middle of the recommended depth. Also I am talking to BRS right now as my pump shut down in the middle of the night last night for no reason. It is plugged directly into a wall and not a controller.

Just an update. After multiple pump shut downs for no reason I contacted BRS. They have been amazing. Sent me a new pump the next day. Unfortunately I have yet to receive it. Looks like USPS lost it in Chicago. But that has nothing to do with BRS. THEY HAVE BEEN AMAZING.

USPS loses at least half of the packages they are responsible for addressed to me. Glad to hear that BRS got a new pump sent out. What version impeller is in the failing pump? How long has it been running?

It was a brand new. This was the first day. Honestly I didn't know about the bad impellers so I didn't even look but I bought it on black Friday.

Huh well that's probably just bad luck. It happens. My new Neptune Apex AFS that I got this weekend didn't work out of the box. My skimmer has been running without issue but only time will tell about the longevity of this new setup.

ok, well i ended up taking the feed for this off that was coming from my bio-pellets, had a few start to get past the filter and into the skimmer, so now it is being feed directly off a manifold on my return pump and is actually running better now.

Hi
Does anyone on here use ozone on their skimz? I read on the instructions that the manufacturer recommends cutting the airline and putting in a T piece. Surely doing that would make your air setting tap nil and void, the skimmer would suck all the air from the unrestricted ozonizer leg of the T. Wouldn't it be better just to pop the outlet from the ozonizer onto the air inlet of the silencer? Or would that melt the silencer?

My skimz is sucking straight outside air from a very long hose. Pump on 5 and it's pulling out some stomach-wrenching nastiness. I think it really started going nuts when I started carbon dosing. Currently 0 nitrates, 0 phosphorus (red sea pro and hanna, respectively) and I can see my rocks again! :) Going to start dosing FlorinGro and Ferrion(iron) today. Chaeto is not happy with the low nutrients and I want to keep the fuge going for pod production.

Yes, carbon dosing does this.. It's absolutely insane the difference.. I can easily tell when new pellets kick in. Absolutely putrid!

Does anyone know how disassemble the pump for the skimz sm203 I think mine seized. Thanks

The front plate on the pump screws off counterclockwise. I kept trying to pull it off and broken one of the retaining clips. Otherwise it just comes apart like every other pump. I went two years without the pump needing a cleaning. Have had pretty good luck with it

well glad to see so many people using the skimz line. As someone who tested for them and to have a company actually listen to input was nice. for those of you using the skimz skimmers, these skimmers work best with the air line barely open, close it almost all the way and slowly open it you will hear the motor hit a sweet spot. these do take a few days to settle in. one of the things alot of people dont take into consideration is the amount of flow in a sump rffrcts it as well and where the pump is in relation to the outlet. meaning is the pump aimed more towards the drain or towards the return pump.

Well I guess I'm one of the unfortunate ones my pump died out of nowhere. Impeller is fine and there is nothing jammed inside, it just stopped working. I purchased it 15 months ago but started using it 11 months ago, so I'm out of warranty. Loved the performance but now I'm reluctant to buy a replacement pump in fear it will happen again. Also can't think of what other skimmer is comparable without having to spend 1k.

Can you post a pic of the impeller? After cleaning in 50% vinegar solution did it fail to spin up? Does the controller appear to be working?

I will post a pic of the impeller later when I'm back home. The pump does nothing at all. The Impeller appears to be In perfect condition and the controller seems to be working fine also.
