Skimz skimmer club

Counter clockwise lowers the gate valve keeping more water in the skimmer. Clockwise raises the gate valve letting more water out of the skimmer thus lowering the overall water inside the skimmer.
Results are still the same.. Left raises the water level, right lowers the water level.. We're saying the exact same thing..

Mine wouldn't produce anything for a while like yours but my tank was just set up and everything was new so it had nothing really to pull. How long has the tank been up and is that the correct size skimmer for the tank? How much is in the tank fish and coral? This has a lot to do with if your going to skim a lot or not.

Im thinking this part of the problem. Just added livestock about two weeks ago, a pair of black ice clowns, starry blenny, 6 snails, and some GSP.

I did empty what was in the collection cup, clean, and dial the skimz down to power level 6 of 8 at lunch time. Tonight, at the moment it appears that it's actually foaming more than before. I'll give it until the morning and update.

Sounds like we found the problem. The little fish you put hardly poop enough to make a dark foam and will only pull out a little as they poop and pee. As you add more fish and corals and feed more you will see it get better as mine has. Be patient as your not stocked enough to keep a good dirty foam head.

Just got a skimz sn123. Anyone faces problem getting the cup out. Its always very tight. I broke the acrylic rod to the gate valve while trying to wrestle the cup out.

One thing good it started skimming after 1 day

Yes, my SN143 is very hard. Once I have a bioload to skim the collection cup ease of removal may be the thing that causes me to get rid of it.

I greased the o-ring with some cooking oil and sat in the living room and put the cup off and on for about 10-15 minutes and it definitely got easier but it's still very tough.

I took it out of the sump Friday and disassembled the entire thing. Cant pull the venturi out but I could see it and was able to spin it with my finger to see it wasn't clogged and intact.

It's where the air hose is. It gets calcium salt built up in the air tube connecting home. I have to use a screwdriver to declog it. After doing that her started pulling lots of bubbles.

I thought that may be the case but kept seeing videos and comments of people setting one up on a new cycling tank and already pulling skim so it made me wonder if mine was bad.

I think it's already doing a little better with the lower pump speed.

Not the best quality video from an iPhone.

From reading your other thread, your tank has been set up for a few weeks.. And you have added livestock.. At least a week ago. So, you have material to skim.. There is a lot that goes on besides just skimming out the food that we add to the system.. Just the biological functions alone can bring organic matter.. So, the tank being new, nah.. You should still have skim..

And the color, that is going to be determined by the settings of your skimmer.. Not how old your tank is.. We have to remember, even on the best day, none of our tanks are sterile and/or lacking in activity. Whether we see it with our eyes or not..

You all may want to contact brs.. I thought that this was normal also. But I read somewhere that they had a shipment where something with the o rings. There was an issue on them four that model I believe..

Yeah on my 203 it is not difficult to remove the cup. Only a little harder than my deltec and that is just because the cup is enormous and a little ungainly haha. I love bayonet fittings for skimmers though. The best way to go. Definitely call BRS if it is really hard to remove.

That is my concern.

I did a water change yesterday and powered everything up except the skimmer until all was normal as far as water levels in the sump. Without changing any settings, I fired the skimmer up to see if it would go back to the same settings I had it skimming at before and it started overflowing in the cup immediately so i was back at square one.

I'm gonna give it til the end of the weekend and then we'll see. I may just get a Bubble Magus or Reef Octopus Skimmer. I'm already tired of messing with this one.

I greased the o ring with Vaseline and now the cup comes off super easy every time even months later and I have only greased it once. The Vaseline didn't cause any issues whatsoever with the tank

Called BRS, they noted my account being one of the skimmers with a collection cup that is hard to get off and offered to send me another cup. I told them to wait because I was going to give it until Monday to see if this skimmer would start working and didn't want to have a cup shipped and while trying to exchange the skimmer.

Added some corals today, (Stylophora, Montipora Capricornis, and beautiful frogspawn) and to my amazement when I fired the skimmer up and made some small adjustments after these coral additions it went straight to foaming like nothing I'd ever seen. Left it alone and I did add some Alk & Calcium buffer and came back about 2 hours later and the water level in the skimmer was way down below the cup and neck and into the body of the skimmer.

Anyone have any recommendations for a skimmer that will fit a 11 3/8" x 9.5" sump chamber? Tank is 54 gal high bioload with 10 gallon sump. I want it somewhat oversized. I may get a 125-180 gallon display in the future. I was looking at the SM163 and SV203.

If you can fit it, go for the 203..

SM163 running strong.

have the pump issues been resolved, has their been marked improvement by the company to use more reliable pump parts? or would a new buyer TODAY be facing /expecting the same unreliability that has plagued buyers before......i was considering the leopard model with the IIC (their internal inverted cone).....any feedback would be appreciated as to relaibilty of the pump situation on new purchases.......

I will say this. I purchased one in November and within 24 hrs of owning it the pump failed. That said the retailed did everything to make it right.
