Slakker's Eclipse 12 Build Thread (Sorry, 56kers)

ive always been using RO water from a LFS. Going to check my water parameters also...I never had this problem with algae when i feed my tank but since ive been at work and my baby sister feeds them it gets like this. I hope it goes away soon. Cant wait to see the new rockwork!

Just a couple quick phone-shots of the new rock. A little more than half of this will be going into my brother's cube. What you see is only about 6 pounds...my three huge dumb rocks are about 15 total...GAH...stupid lack of aquascaping possibilities...

Yeah, that's about half of the 10g QT tank filled with rock for 6 pounds.

I may have to unload one of my pieces of rock...but who's going to want just one rock with a couple stalks of Xenia on it? lol

:) I saw the first amphipod today in the bubble catcher... I hope theres more that i just cant see...any way to increase there population other than time?? Feed more phyto perhaps???

I dunno...I just feed normally and let things do what they want. I'm sure with something like Pods (and aiptasia) if you can see one, there are probably a bunch more hiding somewhere.

So...observed something interesting this evening while checking over the Zoa's looking for signs of an irritant.

One lonely little feather duster looking thing on my big piece of rock. It's seriously TINY, about the diameter of a pencil. In fact, I'm noticing a bunch of little white tubes spread over my rocks...I saw a bunch of real small, hard white things on the bottom of the Zoa frag I got the other day. Perhaps they hitched in on that and spread to other places around the tank.

Anyone ever heard of anything that looks like a feather duster being predatory or generally bad for your tank?

Everything I have heard says they are fine. Just cute little filter feeders. I have a lot in my 75 g - wish I had them in my nano.

I wanted to try to get a picture of the feather duster today, but it's so tiny and faint I can't get my camera to pick it up.

I couldn't imagine them being bad, but I'm just hoping there are no crazy species that will go Aiptasia-mode on me.

Everything looks great today, I'll post an updated FTS later on.

It's tough to say...they look okay to me, but the gills on it are a little worrying. Could just be the deformities that have become normal on some captive bred clowns.

whenever i put my hand in ther water of the turkey baster they attack me and bit me..The first time i was trying to turn over a snail and it caught me by suprise and i pulled my hand out of there along with some water...it was the one i thought was sick...maybe not after that...anything to prevent them from biting me again trying to place corals etc???

I don't know...mine have only gone after my hand a couple times. It could be a good sign that they're defending territory and whatnot, though.

dang that wadd of rock was only 6 pounds? sounds like someone got a deal! thats alot of rock for 6 pounds haha. is that a tourch coral or frogspawn you have in there?

never mind i just saw your post said it was a frogspawn. looks really nice. what are the lighting requierments for that? i love the way they look.

I've heard the general rule is 4-5 watts per gallon for most LPS, but any general rule in this hobby is incredibly rough. I, of course, have it under 175w MH and it seems to be doing really well.
My original Zoa frag has started opening up a lot more these past couple days, too. Everything seems to be going good :)

Nice start! Your tank is looking good. I have had troubles with peppermint shrimp too, one ate about half of red mushroom before I came home and caught him. As for the little white feather dusters, they are perfectly fine. I have dozens of them in my biocube. My clowns always attack me when I stick my hand in the water. (they even try if my hand is just sitting above the water). Have you done anything for filtration yet? I also have a 12g Eclipse set up as a mantis tank and have been contemplating making a sump/fuge out of an old 10gal.

I was going to do the sump/fuge but I'm terrified of drilling the Eclipse...the acrylic is really not that thick.

I'm planning on getting an AC70 and fugemodding it.

I've noticed the tube of this particular feather duster has gotten a couple centimeters longer, as well. That's gotta be a good sign.
