Folks,

We would like to invite you to the SLASH Town Hall meeting and Mexican Fiesta.

The meeting will take place on April 12. 2006 at the Tesson Ferry branch of the St. Louis County Library located at 9920 Lin Ferry Drive, 63123, (314) 843-056. The meeting room will be ours from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM with the actual meeting beginning at 7:00. For those who care to arrive before 7:00, the club officers will be in attendance starting at 6:00 PM. Feel free to come meet us and talk before the meeting. We are looking forward to meeting those who care to attend.

The purpose of this meeting is to answer any questions that you may have and to give you our ideas on the future direction of SLASH.

After the meeting, we will be making the short drive to Casa Gallardo located at 11185 South Towne Square, 63123, (314) 487-0511 for some food, some fun and, for those of us who are old enough, maybe a margarita or two.

Please note: Smoking, eating and drinking are not allowed in the library meeting room. For those of you who may be interested in joining SLASH at the meeting, exchange of money is also not allowed but we will be happy to accept dues while at Casa Gallardo.

See you there!

Greg

What is up with the late time Greg? I think we'd be better off eating first then meeting at the Library.

This fat kid cannot wait until 9 to eat!!!

Howard,

Unfortunately that is the only time and date that the meeting room is available unless we want to wait for a long time.

Pssssst! Don't say anything to anyone but I'll sneak you in a burger or something.:D

I am the same way as you with food!! I am going to bring a 1/2lb bag of Ozark beef jerky out in the car just in case :D

Earlier meeting times for dinner couldn't be made by most people working 9-5 and still leave time to have a two hour meeting, if needed.

Another event down south? I'm too lazy to drive that far on a week night. I hope there will be more central meeting locations in the future. :(

You should take a look at the CIMA group's forum sometime. That club covers the whole central part of Illinois and some of their members travel over a hundred miles sometimes to attend a meeting. I'm sure SLASH will have meetings at various sites. Perhaps you could lend your local insight into suggestions of places to have future meetings in your area?

Better believe it!

I live in Florissant so there will definitely be meetings closer than south county. In fact, I think that after this meeting there will be something going on in my neck of the woods but that's only a guess.......or is it?:D

I'll just copy & paste what I PMed to one of the club's esteemed execs:

You can't make everybody happy all the time, and I understand that. So, my suggestion would be to schedule meetings for more central locations, such that they are inconvenient for as few people as possible, rather than moving them around to various parts of the county, where they are bound to be majorly inconvenient for a decent percentage of people each time. Tesson Ferry is 40-45 min for me, even though it is almost all highway, and I'm not even as far west as a lot of people.

Obviously if an LFS visit is part of a get-together, that changes things, but just for a meeting it could be held at, say, the library in Clayton. U City is a good, central location with plenty of great places to meet & restaurants. Clayton/U City shouldn't be more than a 30-min drive for most people.

I would also suggest trying especially hard to make the actual *meetings* more accessible for everyone, as opposed to the more random events. The meetings are the most important element as far as club business goes. I'm not comfortable paying for membership to a club when the voting meetings could be held so far away that it just isn't worth the trouble to go. I could see events like pizza nights traveling all over, but meetings should be carefully centralized, IMO, so that people aren't excluded due to location.

Just my $0.02... if it's even worth THAT much coming from a newbie. ;)

BTW, I think that when you live somewhere extremely rural (like central Illinois), driving a long ways to get anywhere is pretty much just a fact of life.

Yeah, I'm from central Illinois originally. And come to think of it, we DID have to drive, whut, sumthin' like 2 hunerd miles jest ta find a freakin' phone and whut not. An' the only fish thar wuz in sal'water was the crappie fillets I hads soakin' on mah kichen counter.

No, even in central Illinois you don't have to drive all that far to get things. The point was that those people are willing to make the effort like that and not complain about it. I'll counter by saying that I wouldn't particularly like to have to drive into the center of St. Louis for every meeting either as I'm not particularly fond of city driving.

My mom's family lives in central Illinois and I have spent a lot of time there. They are pretty far from everything.

I didn't meant to complain. I guess I mistook the previous invitations to share thoughts on the club as... invitations to share thoughts on the club.
