Slave sps tank

Top down photo of the echinata, hard to see it in its full blossom. Normally most photos are only the skeleton.

post 16 number4 is that a paraclavarina [leopard coral]

Yes it is.. pure ghost white colours too.
It is pretty deadly - see the dead skeleton of stag on the right? My tangs must of knocked it over and it was leaning onto it for who knows how long.
Killed it in less than a week, couldn't even save the florescent green stag.

mine is branching out over an orange leptastrea and the branch that is touching it has come off second best..

Those latest pics are great Kevin, how long have you had the echi piece growing as it looks extremely happy with the PE you're getting.

Hi Andrew,
The echinata have been in my tank just under 2 months now. It wasn't looking like that when I got it. It looked like everyone else you see on the internet.
It took about 5 days to get to full PE and staying out permanently.
I don't feed my corals anything else, only my DIY amino acids. :reading:

The fish only gets pellets 4 times a day on auto feeder and 1 night feed of nori seaweed.

I have a question to ask of you Andrew, I've notice you are quite the collector of strawberry shortcake acroporas.
My SSC initially bought was glowing green base, with red/pink tips with lots of PE. After about 1 month, it lost all the PE and green base.
It is just 1 tone colour - red / brown with no PE.
It is place right down the bottom of the tank, 5cm off the sand. Is it not getting enough light? Do I need to move it up so it gets more light and flow?

It's not getting enough light down there mate. Looking at your pics i would put it in a spot getting more flow than the echi and more light. Same sort of light these guys are getting but raise it in two stages a couple of weeks apart so you don't freak it out (i would do it in one cause i'm a daredevil) :p

The red brown tissue color is the low light giveaway because you can see this on the underside of poorly illuminated SSC.

Wow. Nice pe on the echinata!
I'd defer to dr. Biggles on the ssc placement..
Mine is mid tank basically directly under a 250w radium bulb.

First top down video - if you get motion sickness from viewing it, discontinue immediately - you have been warned.

Hey thanks for looking.
Coralbox skimmer is nice and pretty well built.
With my Coralbox DC500 - I had the skimmer pump replaced at 9 months under warranty. Other than that, its been going strong ever since the replacement.
The best part are readily available replacements parts that you can just buy at a whim.

Cheap price, but not rubbish quality from my own experience. :p

Beautiful! I must ask, what do you dose for amino acids DIY? I am currently dosing aspartate and glutamate.

Hey - awesome that you are dosing aspartate and glutamate.
Where do you buy that stuff? Ingredient from online health food store?
Is it pure form or bound to other elements?

My DIY Amino acids is the stuff you can buy for animal consumption.
Broad spectrum amino acids with vitamins Bs and electrolytes.:lolspin:

Thank Matt,
not sure why the echinata haven't turn to ice-fire like most seen on the forum's photos.
Maybe it is just like that or I need to move it up towards the light.
It is sitting down low at the bottom and is alive and doing okay. :hammer:
