2) Heavy metals - copper, cobalt, nickel, chromium, manganese, zinc, molybdenum, iron, selenium - to add to the Calcium
3) Boron, Bromide - Separate bottle

I'm very interested in this! Are your base Calcium and ALK solutions based on Randy's recipe one or two? Will you use NaCl free salt to make solution 3 to go with Calcium and ALK?

Stunning photos love all your sps. Great collection.
Is there a way of testing for everything your making/dosing.

My own potion is based on Balling formula. No way to test this stuff, but if it is anything like the Aqua forest, Fauna Marin, Tropic Marin which is based on the Balling formula anyway.
I could send my water to Triton Lab once in a while after 6 months on this stuff.

Hi Matt,
this solution is for Randy recipe 1.
Basically - I add 45ml of Growth, and 45ml of Metal complex to the 5 Liters of Randy 1 Calcium.
Add 45ml of Halogen to 5 liters of Randy 1 Alkalinity.
Boron and Bromide bottle - That is base on 5% Boron and 2.5% Bromide daily dose. Since I am seeing good colouration and growth with 5% Boron.
2.5% Bromide that is still trialing and watching it the progress as my Bromide for my ASW is low according to their product analysis 20 ppm to 40 ppm. I am trying to raise that back up to 65 ppm.

Probably later I will use the NaCl free salt, but at the moment, I am doing Balling Light method with this.

If all you want to do is try to see if it work? Did I mentioned to make your own Trace Elements is going to cost you more than you can buy the ready made bottles from your local fish shop?
I have enough Trace Elements to last me a life time of reefing and then some more.

I'm just fascinated by the process of creating this stuff. Right now I have been dosing just iodine, manganese, and zinc - too early to tell but so far so good. I figure most of my trace elements are replenished with the Calcium reactor, so I have been targeting the few that seem to get used up/depleted. I may add Flourine to the mix.

Some of the reefers here who have been running AF 1+2+3 have had amazing results- and that is basically full balling. It's pricey though and the daily dosing would be 200-300ML for my tank, so I'll stick with the Calcium reactor for now.

So far so good.
The corals are looking really nice!

Thanks mate.
Its been 1 month full on the full dose of DIY Trace elements.
I am amaze with the stuff. What would I know as I am just copying someone else hardwork - Thanks Balling you are the best. :bounce3:

Yes it is pricey to make your own. I guess in the long run, once I go pass the 3rd year, all my chemicals for the balling are free for the rest of my reefing life.
I was doing the same thing as you - dosing individually manganese and zinc and iodine. But found it was probably throwing out the balance because I was just eyeing it.. I could do a bit more of zinc or manganese base on colours of my corals.
Now its all formulated and mixed in - that will be my base foundation, maybe I will still tweak if once in a while for individual stuff whenever I do my Triton test.

Dosing of the DIY trace elements have gone up as well.
I used to dose 45ml per 5 liters of Randy recipe 1 but found the literature suggestion seems a bit on the precautions side of dosing.
If I am to work to the maximum full beneficial strength - I need to up the dose to 65ml.
That is exactly what I have done and I can say it has dramatically changes in colouration and growth.
The ALK and CAL dosage have gone up 12ml again from previously dose.
Since I started the DIY dose - the total increase of 24ml from 120ml daily dose which equal to 20% increase. That is fantastic in my eyes as I haven't change my lights or feeding.

Beautiful shots, like Mhucasey said, I as well am very interested in your DIY trace and amino supplements, please grace us with elaborating on that more, it's obviously working very well for you.

Coloring up very nicely mate, crazy healthy PE.

I like your mad scientist dosing - very impressive stuff. The reef is looking great with obvious growth :)
