Slotted aluminum frame to hang Mitras?

I am wondering if anyone is using 80/20 slotted aluminum to hang their Mitras? I am thinking of making a single L shaped arm to hang over the center of my tank to suspend my Mitras.

Would love to see picture if someone has does this and what parts they used.

Thanks

I'm using but not like that. I have a rectangle made up. My Mitras attach along that and the 2 wires go up to the ceiling to hang it from there.

I have my Mitras hung from 80/20 framing. Here's what I used and what it looks like:

I bought the white cap from Lowes and the framing from Ebay.

Thanks guys.

I ordered the 80/20 parts from Ebay, they were as follows:

15 series Aluminum frame
15 series endcap
15 series right angle connector

The white cap was found at Lowes for less than $2.

When searching on Ebay you may not find the exact length you'd need. You may have to buy a single aluminum frame and have them cut it to your specified size.

They recently began offering this same frame in black too.

Have you got a link for this please

Reviving this old thread to say thank you for the info - it gave me the ideas needed to build my own, high quality light rack.

I just ordered a bunch of 80/20 product from Ebay to build my own rack for four Mitras. Cost was significant, nearly $400 shipped, although I opted for a lot of extras including rubber feet, wire management channels, etc. The Reefbreeders racks sold by http://reefkoi.com are quite reasonably priced... I am doing a different configuration, mounting the lights with the long side perpendicular to the front of the tank, which required extra extrusions and brackets that added to the cost. I am thinking the assembly time will be quite low, probably an hour or two at most.

The Mitras have female M4 x 0.7 threads in the chassis and the wire suspensions have female M6 x 1.0 threads. The wiring suspensions can be attached to the 80/20 T-slot by the connecting screw/cap set showing the earlier photos in this thread, which I found at Home Depot but not Lowe's; M6 T-studs (80/20 part#13444, not listed on Ebay but they will add to your order); or T-nuts with M6 threads and M6 x 25mm set screws. I opted for the ball-spring loaded, self-aligning M6 T-nuts and set screws, latter sourced from Home Depot.

I opted for the black anodized aluminum since it will match the black Mitras. Once the parts arrive and I assemble I will start a new thread with photos and links to the actual parts ordered.

Looking forward to seeing what you do ekovalsky. I've been considering 80/20 but their web site is not at all user friendly...

Best bet is their Ebay store... most products are listed there. Add them to your cart then request a total (with combined shipping) from seller; in the comment field you can add any item# not on Ebay and they will include it on the final invoice.

They did a commendable job in combining shipping, basically it was the same amount as the most expensive individual item (the 72" 1515 T-Slot) plus $10 for everything else.

I ordered some extra parts, and anticipate having (8) extra M6 T-studs to mount the GHL wire suspensions directly to the T-slot; if anyone wants them for their project PM me. These parts were not on Ebay.

I assembled my 80/20 rack today, very pleased with the result. See the new thread I started in the GHL section for photos and parts list.

The two arms have the tslot underneath. So i simple cut a piece out of the angle at each end and placed a screw up from underneath. So the end of the angle actually sits under the arm.
