Slower Flow at night?

Do I need to adjust my flow at night? I have an mp40 in my 40 gallon and keep it high flow for some sps I have. Should I run it 24/7?

Thanks

For what it's worth, I do lower flow at night. I do it more to keep things changing/random than anything, but I do have four hours on "lagoon" mode.

I have a 40 gallon Nuvo with two koralia pumps on a wave maker.I change the flow to switch at night to half hour interval from the one minute I have during day.My understanding is that reefs are calmer at night.

I have my return and a standard powerhead maintaining the overall, underlying current, but my wavemakers cut back to 50% of normal operating power from an hour after lights out to an hour before they go on again in the morning.

Not that it really matters all that much either way, I would guess.

The correct answer is YES, to whatever way you want to run your tank. I've done both and I've seen no difference in the tank at all.

Yeah, lots of things in this hobby that result in passionate arguments that actually make no difference. This is one of them.

I have high flow during the day but I keep the flow lower at night to give the fish and corals a break.

The sea is not calmer at night, the waves still crash at high tide.

^^ Just gave the summary of both sides to the argument in one post.

I don't slow my pumps down at night. However my pumps ramp down (for 15 minutes) and ramp back up (another 15 minutes) 4 times a day changing the direction of flow in coordination with the lunar cycle much like tides.

For the most part the only thing that changes at night is wind tends to calm down giving the appearance that the ocean calms as well, this is only what we see on the surface, it's not necessarily what happens below.
I don't see or feel a need to change anything just because it is night time.
