i wanted lots of coverage for sps to grow, room for fish to swim in and out and take cover and free access to clean the glass easily...

hehe, well theres sand and a small amount of water in there, im waiting on the sump to be made when I can get the whole system running. Ive started dosing with zeobac and zeofood to get the bacteria population building up :)

i ended up realising that the stand has been treated inside already, but i got two rolls of drawer lining from ikea to layer the bottom with

tank has water in, i havent pushed too far on with the build... the plumbings half done... i have been waiting on the ballasts for the spectra...phil @ xenia is chasing them up...the spectra looks awesome tho

anyhow... i have been dosing 3-4 drops of zeobac and 1ml zeostart a day for the last month...now remember I have no skimmer going, none of the substrate or rock was live... i tested day before yesterday ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 10... I am seriously impressed!!! there is a white bacteria film around the edges of the aquarium but im not fussed at the moment, and it will clear when the tanks running properly

ok, so phil is having to chase the ballasts up some more...

ive been looking at fish stocking a bit, and am really thinking now that i need more than one tank... so im thinking of setting up a fowlr for fishies and this mainly being sps but maybe a couple of the lps i like in there too like scollies and clams

talking of clams 3rd coast corals are keeping hold of a couple of awesome clams for me... kinda unusual looking maximas from, where else, vietnam of course :) i wasnt going to have clams in this tank but couldnt resist these ones..

ok, so im thinking light bracket, as in what the heck am i doing...

my options:-

-use ez tube to make two L- shaped brackets
- make 2 L shaped brackets from wood
- make 2 L shaped brackeets from conduit pipe
- have 2 L shapred brackets made by Txfatcats car shop

any options i forgot.... um

yep make a 1 piece bracket like

That's an awesome article and link Lance, thanks for sharing!

I have been looking into light racks/brackets like this, and I think I'll order one through Zeroedge aquariums. Because I don't have any of the pole bending tools the cost would be VERY similar between DIY and ordering one (and I stink at DIY ;) ), plus the Zeroedge requires no work (less mounting) and it's already powder-coated: http://www.zeroedgeaquarium.com/SLB1Brackets.htm

Now I only need one bar coming over the back beacuse my fixture is really light. I think it would become more economical if you need two bars to DIY them...

I do have some 1.5" square tube laying around, but bending is probably out of the question.

Do you have the AGE website link, I can't seem to find it, maybe I'm forgetting what the acronym is for AGE.

im actually leaning towards this...they do connectors, so id just have to cut the tubes, no bending required :)
NICE... I'm going to look through that over the weekend... might be a wiser way to go!

Lance,

Time for an update or RC will let this thing die for lack of updating - LOL. I know cause I could not find my thread. Anyways rock looks great when are we going to see some livestock?

Cheers

phew ok... progress...

well, i discovered the inside of the stand had been treated, so decided to opt for some ikea rubber drawer liners...

so i decided to use get tanked salt...

you can get it shipped in these boxes which is cheaper :)

the calcium comes seperate, so ive been mixing that seperately with water then adding it later

000_0240.jpg

i mix the salt in a bin and pump it into the tank :)

now one thing that was weird was the boxes were wet where i had them stored and there was water on the floor!

000_0280.jpg

i opebned the boxes and found one had split in shipping...

the weird hair on the floor is from my dog, the salt lives in the utility room where the dog sleeps at night :)

as water was going in... the brown rock is rubble that i had in a bucket for 6 months, basically i have placed it in the tank for the moment to add a bit of diversity....interestingly i have noticed a few pods from it on the glass... thats the only live thing i put in the tank, so basically they lasted 6 months in a bucket with a powerhead reproducing
