Small Blue Hippo Lethargic in Quarantine

Not with tangs, specifically. But, any fish originating in the Philippines is suspect in particular.

.chris. said something about fish being caught with cyanide are usually more colorful?

also it would be nice to know the usual timeline of a cyanide caught fish?

it could explain why the hippo's from a particular supplier are all suddenly doing bad?

With all due respect to .chris. improved coloration is unlikely. Cyanide caught fish tend to "exist" in a mindless state just sort of hovering around. They will not eat, they will not hunt, just sort of hover. Collecting tangs with cyanide is unlikely as they are an open water fish and it would be virtually impossible to dose them with cyanide. Mandarins, however, are highly localized and cyanide collection is common as they can harvest multiple ones.

I seriously doubt that this is the issue.

Thanks Steve, very informative, i was sure tangs where collected using cyanide!

especially naso tangs, but it makes perfect sense that they are in open waters... didn't think of that

Hippo Tang sick..

Hippo Tang sick..

Hi guys, Im hoping you may be able to give me the advice im desperately in need of.. I have a hippo tang who unfortunately due to my lank of diligence contracted ICH. I accepted my short coming and moved everyone to quarentine and Hypo Salinity, where all my other fish were doing perfectly but for the tang, After 2 days he was lying on his side with almost no color.. I slowly pushed up the salinity and moved him back to the display (Panicking) I thought if i could get him to eat and get him healthier when i moved him back to quarentine he would be ok, no such luck i am having the same issue.. My question.. Since all the other fish are ok, and the levels in my quarentine are (Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0.5) In line, Do Hippo tangs just not like Hypo Salinity or is he simply a sick fish?.. Is there anything i can do to help him? At this point i have to look after the other fishes health and as heart sore as it would be to loose him i need to kill the ICH.. I really appreciate your time guys!! Thanks

You will get better responses starting your own thread rather than tail ending a very old thread.
