Small crack in Metal halides bulb?

I just saw a small crack on one of my metal halides is it still ok to use it?

It actually depends on whether or not it's a mogul based bulb or not. Mogul have the shield to protect from UV, DE bulbs don't. I have no clue what would happen on a DE bulb that's cracked, but a mogul bulb will be leaking UV light out, a piece of standard plate glass should remedy this AFAIK. I may be wrong as this is passed on info and not researched knowledge.

It doesn't matter. Sharpie you are correct but either way they can explode. The UV is my main concern but the heavy metals that can come out if the bulb if it pops isn't worth the risk.

Ok thanks guys. Also another one of my bulbs has a lump in it. Like the glass reshaped itself is that one ok or no?

Sounds like your due for a new set. Can you take a pic of the lump?
