smaller eels longterm

Are there any smaller eels that go well together long term?

Also, what fish might do well in an eel tank?

didn't find a stickie on either of these questions, but spent the whole day reading some of the others.

We have a snowflake eel and a gold patterned, olive green "freshwater" eel that was pushed up to full salt over a months time. They are both 12-13 inches long now and doing fine in the same tank for about a year and a half. The snowflake is the boss, but not by much.
Was told the "freshwater" eel wouldn't get over 2 feet. It was about 9" when I got it. It hasn't grown much or thickened up much since we had it.It is now about as thick as my middle finger.
The snowflake was a tank bred 5" earth worm when we got it. It is now 12-13 inches and about as thick around as my thumb.
Current plan is they will end up in a 4 foot long, 75 gallon tank.

Would love to add an adult engineer goby to this mix when i move them all to the brand new (to them) tank. The LFS currently has a 13" engineer goby. They also have the 3" horizontal striped babies. I would enjoy watching a baby engineer goby mature into it's adult pattern if it has a decent chance of survival.


Also looking for a few "swimming, but not perching or hovering" 4 to 7 inch fish that might survive in their tank without any chance of hurting the eels. Our 4" Coral Beauty angelfish is one of the potential candidates.

I think your two eels, engineer goby and coral beauty will be fine. How about a couple of clownfish? I never had issues with my eels eating fish, but others have. Do you have pictures of the eel?

I'm not sure what the "green" species is, but having kept a SFE from "pencil size" to adulthood over about 15 years, IME your tank is pretty much stocked, to be honest. Plan on the SFE reaching about 30" in captivity.

Also, realize that once the SFE hits about 18" - 20", they often become very aggressive. I had mine in a 48" community setup and had to remove it as it started in on its tankmates. Bsed on my experience, I personally don't think any eel but a GDM should be kept in a tank with a footprint that small with other fishes, as the fishes are in such close proximity to each other.
