Hey Sqwat, looking good. I've had an elegance for about 5 months now and it seems to prefer very low light and just enough flow to gently shift it around. Mine did best when I had both my pumps on opposite 15-24 second cycles and 32watt t8's (one actinic, one daylight). I recently upgraded to a t5/led/hqi odyssea setup and its just now at about 80% expansion with only 1 54watt t5 daylight and actinic on. Mine is very sensitive to light. I actually had to put 3 layers of screen door material along with a piece of white paper over the area of my t5 lighting above the elegance to get it somewhat happy. I don't target feed mine (fish/shrimp will grab it). I've noticed it's the first coral (amongst zoo's, xenias, mushrooms, frogspawn, and hammer corals) to recede if alk drops. I found this out while I was on vacation for 4 days and came back my alk was at approx 7.5dKH/2.69meqL (ca at 420) and it was about @ 30% expansion for several days until I brought my alk back above 9dKH/3.2meqL. My nitrates also tend to run around 10ppm. Overall I'd say low flow and low lighting have been the most noticeable things that my elegance has reacted positively to.

Here's an example of before the lighting upgrade before and after...

It's my favorite coral and I hope over time it will get used to the higher power lighting. Hope yours does well!

wow i can realty see the differance.he is under ho t5 on the lowest part in tank.so small he doesnt even have a full fold yet in his oral disk.he grabs mysis when i feed my fish so feeding him seems not to be a problem.i keep my water incheck also but i will keep an eye out thenks.i am currently setting up a 400 breeder to be a lagoon tank he will be centerpiece as i grow him out i plan to add my rainbow wells seagrasses ad macro dsp some blasto's fungia, pipe fish dwarf seahorses maybe and rockwork with yams maximinis and the beatifull ultra purple branching bubble i have.im realy glad i got one this small i really get to see it grow and learn also i think it will be easier for him to adapt to captive life this way .he really looks good today open fully nice long tantacles wich are very sticky. he is also very green on body no receding tishue base.he has a roung base as thick as a toostie roll looks just like one.im going to get a good camera and take better he is so flourecent green he blinds my cell camera.he is also 21 inches from 24 watt ho guisszmen power chrome bulbs seems happy uder this they are great bulbs

purple tips he looks so good today long flowing tentacles filled with nemocysts .beautifull flourecent color.i will take a pic and post it today.he is getting a fold in him he is close to the size of a quarter today

here are some crappy cell phone pics of him today.getting a fold in body tentacles long ,sticky, and full of nemocysts.great color.

im in luv he really took full elegance shape today by lights out.looks so good .iv got big plans for him but im taking it day by day.so far so good.is E.C. around i would love to hear what he thinks of him.

he is expanding allot more now and getting the classic elegance shape tentacle are much longer and he is catching live pods and mysis regularly seems to realy like his new locale.in lowest par of tank i do not want to burn him he fell under the ledge at the lfs for 4 days so the guy gave him to me for 29$ even though he had no damage.originally 2 months ago wanted 89$ then 49$ two weeks ago said he would give it to me for 39$ after about a week in a half i had money and saw it was under the frag ledge and he said you got 29$ and you can take it.so far so good.anyone else start one from this size.i would like to know the growth rates on a healthy one cause im setting up a 40 breeder lagoon and i want it to run for over a year b4 i put him in.

Nice, they're so cute at that size :) The smallest I had was about 1/2", it used to be bigger but a huge gorilla crab I didn't know I had decided to make a snack of it. It survived though, I had it in my macro tank that has high phosphates so it grew very slowly. Stayed one mouth for awhile, then in a couple weeks grew like 10+ more. I have it in my reef tank with better water parameters for it and its growing nicely now.

Now its the little one to the left, about 4" across when fully extended:

Im hoping mine grows nicly for me to.how long did it take to get to last pic?is he a bud from the large elegance in the last pic?

Time difference of about 2 years. It was in my macro tank for a lot of that time and didn't grow at all due to the high phosphate levels. It would be much much larger by now if it hadn't been in that tank. Both elegances are frags of the same colony.

thanx allot tek.the frags and buds of healthy colonies in captive sytems is what we need to sell of the elegance coral they seem to have the best chance at survival.

posting new pics today he is extending more and more every day.he gets a couple of zoa, oysterfest, and phyto soaked mysis daily .lookin very good.adapting well.i want to see more nano pics and stories im sure someone else has one.post pics later.

these are pics of him just after eating 2 weeks in frag tank
