Smelly Nog

Ok, so I just installed an Octo NDW200 Recirc Ext. in my closet. This was the only space I had available to install a larger skimmer to get away from an hob. Well this sucker is now putting out nasty nog that so smelly, my closet smells like a rotting forest. Wondering if there are any suggestions to curb the smell. For time being, I put some carbon in 2 old socks and laid them over the holes in the top of the collection cup. I have a drain in the bottom of the cup for a remote container, but I have it closed off for now. Any ideas?

run it into a waste collector with more carbon on the exhaust vent. its a love hate relationship.

What about one of these?

or one of these? They also sell this for $70 that simply fits ontop of the collection cup lid. I could prolly simply mod to fit my octo lid pretty easy. Might be better to go with a larger auto waste container and tape over the collection cup holes?

I'm wondering which waste container/filter would be better, the aqua C or the ETSS?

Yes, the 4 vent holes on the lid. That's where the smell is coming out of. Put a few sacks of carbon over the holes.

Ya tried that but it seems to block too much of the air back inside the cup and down the neck for the skimmer. I just found one of the aqua C 5L auto waste collection cups with a carbon filter on ebay. I'll attached my drain to this as it is a sealed container and silicone the 4 vent holes on the top of the collection cup lid

The most recent issue of Aquarium Fish had a tip to dissolve some kalk and pour a little in the collection cup. Possibly a higher pH prevents excessive bacteria growth. No experience myself, just something I read sitting on the can.

I'm not using kalk right now but will boroow some from a friend to try it out. If it works it's the cheapest route.

Kalk works... its an old trick from the EU. The high pH prevents the bacteria from forming. I still think the humidity and such would be something best to vent to the outside if possible... time to get out the drill!!
