'Smoking' Anenome ??

Something strange is going on in my reef.

My Anenome who has been in the tank for nearly a year now has started to 'smoke' for want of a better description. Little puffs of smoke seem to be coming from the base and out of the mouth.

I've just noticed that all the bristle starfish that hide in the rock have all come out and are climbing over the rock !!

Does anyone recognise these symptoms ?

I'm off to do a set of water tests .....

tell him it is impolite to smoke in the house. I insist all my fish go outside. j/k

sperm maybe? the starfish might be smelling this and looking for imminent food.

Sounds like spawning.

All parameters seem fine.

The small brittle stars are climbing to the highest point, arching thier middles upwards and they are then 'smoking'

The Anenome is now half deflated and still smoking every time the clown nudges it.

The fish don't seem effected by what's happening though ??

I'm starting to get a bit worried now !

Mine has flaked out and looked like this while spewing "something", any similarities???

Hi Pleco,

Your's just seems to be expelling waste, mine was definately 'smoking', I can only assume it was some kind of spawning behavior ??

It's back and inflated this morning as if nothing happened !

Mine did the same thing a few months back and again today.

It is a Orange rock anemone and it is the only one that I have seen do this. Another thing is this film in the water and it smells awful!!!!

Here is a picture back in the summer the first time I watched it .

Is this what you saw? Also did you notice any smell?
